Harry Potter fans with a penchant for evilness and machinations will no doubt be wanting to know all about the Hogwarts Legacy Unforgivable Curses and whether you can use Avada Kedavra. The Unforgivable Curses are the three most powerful spells of the wizarding world, and together they make up the sinister tools of the Dark Arts.
Speaking of the Hogwarts Legacy Unforgivable Curses, the player character is not the only one able to wield the Dark Arts. Sebastian Sallow, one of the Hogwarts Legacy characters and Hogwarts Legacy companions, is also willing to research the Dark Arts when necessary. This is based on our time with the game for our Hogwarts Legacy review. And you might want to learn these soon, as they are some of Hogwarts Legacy best spells, especially towards some of the Hogwarts Legacy best builds.
How to unlock all Hogwarts Legacy Unforgivable Curses
You can use all three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy, these are:
- Avada Kedavra (Killing Curse) – Complete the “In the Shadow of the Relic” quest with Sebastian
- Crucio (Cruciatus Curse) – Complete the “In the Shadow of the Study” quest with Sebastian
- Imperio (Imperius Curse) – Complete the “In the Shadow of Time” quest with Sebastian
All of the above quests are part of the Hogwarts Legacy side quests, meaning you won’t unlock them as part of the main story. However, these quests will become available at different parts of the main quest.
This means you can use Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy, letting you truly become a master of the Dark Arts. Avada Kedavra is the most powerful spell in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy, causing the victim to have an instant and painless death. Only one person is ever said to have lived from the Killing Curse, the one and only Harry Potter.
Although Avada Kedavra is surely the most popular and iconic of the Unforgivable Curses featured in Hogwarts Legacy, we can’t forget about the others. Crucio, also known as the Torturing Curse, inflicts excruciating pain upon its victim. Last but not least is Imperio, perhaps the most frightening of all. Imperio causes the victim to become unquestionably loyal to the caster, allowing them to carry out their bidding through their victim.
No doubt many fans of the universe will have fun using these Hogwarts Legacy Unforgivable Curses for themselves, especially since there is no morality system in the game. Besides the Unforgivable Curses, players will have plenty of other Hogwarts Legacy spells to play around with.
Hogwarts Legacy has drawn considerable criticism during its development, largely due to the fact that the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years.
While Avalanche has confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not “directly involved” in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, it is working with “her team” and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories. It is currently unclear whether she will earn any royalties from the game’s sale, but it is likely given it is based on her original body of work.
