Hogwarts Legacy teases event with Harry Potter actor Tom Felton

Following the launch of Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and Xbox One, Harry Potter actor Tom Felton teases a return to the franchise with the Into The Shadows event.

As Hogwarts Legacy arrives for eighth-generation platforms, legions of Harry Potter fans can explore the fabled Wizarding World castle on PS4 and Xbox One consoles. With plenty of new tweaks and fixes to the popular open-world RPG, the fun continues as Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton teases a collaboration and an unexpected return to the Harry Potter franchise.

Coming to legions of Potterheads that continue to uncover all that Hogwarts Legacy has to offer, developer Avalanche Software teases a new event with Tom Felton via its social media channels. A voiceover provided by Sebastian Sallow voice actor Alfie Nugent cascades over the teaser: “You’re the new fifth year, I’m Sebastian Sallow, welcome to Slytherin.” Revealing themselves from darkness, Felton replies “Hello Sebastian”, as he turns toward the camera.

While the teaser doesn’t reveal the exact nature of Felton’s involvement with the game, it does point players toward an upcoming event called “Into The Shadows with Tom Felton.” As the game takes place well before the events of the mainline Harry Potter story, we do wonder if Felton could be joining the list of Hogwarts Legacy voice actors as a brand new character in a potential Hogwarts Legacy DLC expansion.

Speculatively, it is possible that it could be nothing more than a livestream in which Felton plays the ‘In The Shadow of’ storyline and reflects on his time as Draco Malfoy across the Harry Potter movies. It wouldn’t be the first time for Hogwarts Legacy that a fellow alumnus from the movies has collaborated with the game, as Luke Youngblood returned to voice four characters including students Everett Clopton and Arthur Plummly.

Youngblood portrayed Gryffindor student Lee Jordan on the big screen, appearing in the first two entries as a Quidditch commentator. Sadly though, there isn’t any actual Quidditch fun to be had in Hogwarts Legacy – at least not yet anyway.

We’re curious to see what Felton’s crossover will bring, which can be viewed on May 9, 2023, at 9:00 AM PT, 12:00 PM ET, and 5:00 PM BST.

Hogwarts Legacy has drawn considerable criticism during its development, largely due to the fact that the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years.

While Avalanche has confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not “directly involved” in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, it is working with “her team” and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories. It is currently unclear whether she will earn any royalties from the game’s sale, but it is likely given it is based on her original body of work.
