The GTA 6 trailer gets a live action remake, and it slaps

Rockstar's first GTA 6 trailer shows off its stunning recreation of Florida, and now there's an IRL version that replicates it shot-for-shot.

For impatient Grand Theft Auto fans, like myself, re-watching the GTA 6 trailer is pretty much the only fix we can get right now as we await more news on Rockstar’s upcoming PS5 and Xbox behemoth. Well, now there’s at least an alternative version of those precious 91 seconds to spice things up a bit, because a talented YouTuber has recreated the GTA 6 reveal trailer shot-by-shot in real life, and it’s really good.

As you probably know by now, GTA 6 will be set in Leonida, a state based on Florida. Rockstar’s record-shattering GTA 6 reveal trailer showed off the vast breadth of locations we’d be visiting, from swamplands inspired by the Florida Everglades, to the bustling streets and beaches of Vice City, which is of course a recreation of Miami. The size of and level of detail in the GTA 6 map will be a big factor in making it one of the best open-world games ever, and now YouTuber Andrew Levitt has gone straight to the source to re-shoot that trailer.

From drone shots, to secret filming inside a nightclub, to some amateur dramatics to recreate the scenes involving protagonists Lucia and Jason, you can tell a lot of effort has gone into this. It normally takes quite a lot to blow me away when it comes to fan-made content, but this is truly awesome. With Levitt visiting and capturing these locations from the trailer, it also shows what an amazing job Rockstar has done in recreating them within the new PS5 game and new Xbox game.

When it comes to the social media clips and news reports that Rockstar spliced into the GTA 6 reveal, Levitt has included the original source materials for those too. And, of course, Tom Petty’s excellent Love is a Long Road soars over the top of all the action.

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t yet seen the actual GTA 6 trailer, or you just want to contrast it to this live action remake, here it is for you:

As well as uploading his re-do of the GTA 6 trailer, Levitt has also made an accompanying vlog, documenting its creation. This includes a five-hour drive to the Florida Keys just to get one second of drone footage and an awkward trip to a strip club.

This isn’t Levitt’s first rodeo in recreating scenes from some of the best games either. Alongside other GTA-inspired videos, you’ll find IRL recreations of Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us, and Call of Duty Warzone’s Rebirth Island map – which, coincidentally, just returned to the battle royale game.

So while we won’t get an official new trailer for GTA 6 anytime soon, you’ve at least got a fresh version of the original to enjoy. As for when Rockstar may bless us with a second trailer, I don’t think we’ll see it until the tail end of this year, given that the GTA 6 release date sounds like it’s destined to arrive in late 2025.
