God of War Ragnarok expands the game’s arsenal with a number of new shields for you to equip that offer different playstyles and abilities based on if you want to sit behind a shield or parry. As such, it can be hard to figure out which is the best. But, fear not as after playing around with them all we have come up with the best shield in God of War Ragnarok.
Each shield offers its own ability, on top of being able to block or parry attacks; so you will need to really figure out how you want to play God of War Ragnarok and use the new weapons in the game to get a feel of which shield is for you. But, below you can find the best one you should be using when exploring the nine realms.
God of War Ragnarok best shield
The best shield in God of War Ragnarok is the Stone Wall Shield or the Guardian Shield. These two shields are the best out of the five, based on whether you want a traditional parry playstyle or one that focuses on consistent blocking.
The Guardian Shield is our choice for a shield that focuses on parrying or occasional blocking. This is the original shield from 2018’s God of War and it is still a lot better than the new offering the Dauntless Shield. While this offers more effective parries, the window for parrying is extremely tight and not worth the payoff. So, its best to stick with the tried and true Guardian Shield.
Then, the Stone Wall Shield is our option if you are looking for a shield that offers better blocking and an ability that isn’t about parrying. The Shield Slam soaks up damage you block and then turns that damage into an explosion when you double tap the L1 button. This sends enemies flying and allows you to either recover or focus on another target and ensures you aren’t swarmed.
