The release time for Epic Games’ Fortnite Academy Champions skins is almost upon us and it’s been some wait. You might not think of Fortnite as the best battle royale game out there, but it’s hard to deny that it doesn’t go hard when it comes to cosmetics. Featuring ten, cel-shaded customizable skins, this is one of Fortnite‘s most exciting sets of skins yet – and partnered content creators are sharing some interesting details about them.
If you’re just here looking for information on when you can pick these skins up, you’ll be pleased to know that the Academy Champions skins coming to Fortnite will be available from the in-game Item Shop from June 1 at 20:00 PST / 23:00 EST and June 2 at 04:00 BST – according to Epic Partners like ‘Candywing‘ and ‘Immature‘. We don’t know how much each skin will cost, but they’re likely to be available for around 1,500 V-Bucks – this is usually what the most expensive original Fortnite skins go for (as in, skins that aren’t collaborations with other IPs).
We know that might be a little steep – dollars don’t grow on trees, you know – but Epic Partners like featured artist ‘DahjaCat‘ have revealed that the “Academy Champions set has over 500 million possible style combinations” for you to check out. This could very-well be one of the most customizable Fortnite skin sets yet and it’s certainly good news for those of you hoping to jump into Trios – yes, Fortnite’s Trios is back – soon.
Datamined ahead of launch, Fortnite leaker ‘iFireMonkey‘ revealed that each Academy Champions skin has the following customizable options:
- Three upper clothing options (with customizable colors)
- Three lower clothing options (with customizable colors)
- Three shoe options (with customizable colors)
- Three emblem options
- Three shading options
- Primary and Secondary hair color options
- Eye color options
- Three pickaxe options (with customizable colors)
- Backbling chibi option (with customizable colors)
- Backbling shading option
- Backbling reactivity setting
- Backbling screen and tabs options (with customizable colors)
When you consider how many unique combinations this provides you with, and then times that by ten for each Academy Champions skin, you really are looking at millions of options.
However, if you’re looking for something a little more related-to-an-established-IP-y, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s an Optimus Prime skin on the way and Epic Games is already teasing Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3’s tropical theme ahead of the next update. This is one of the best free shooting games out there, maybe even one of the best games of all time, and the fact that Epic Games can casually drop a set of cosmetics with – supposedly – 500 million combinations is just downright impressive.
