Although the Fortnite Miles Morales skin release date is here, the time for another new era in Fortnite is right around the corner. Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 isn’t far off the horizon and the popular battle royale is ditching strange space for something with a little more tropic thunder – at least that’s what developer Epic Games appears to be teasing around the island for PS5, Xbox, and PC players.
With the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 release date getting ready to greet new and returning players, eagle-eyed Redditor ‘Aetherlke’ draws attention to a peculiar instance within the map: “I was in Anvil Square and an earthquake happened, and vines or branches grew out of the cracks.” The footage in question shows the Fortnite player roaming through a trench-like opening with the ground, briefly emanating plumes of dirt or smoke upon walking closer toward it. Additionally, the abrupt sound of what seems to be the ground splitting booms through the player’s audio.

Fortnite isn’t a stranger to alluding to new themes and aesthetic changes, with teases for Fortnite Star Wars events and extra-terrestrial invaders like Galactus from the Marvel Comics universe. However, some players are divided as to whether Epic Games is actually planting seeds for a tropical adventure. “It’s been like this for some time […] You’ll see another dig site like the one you just went to but bigger [east of Anvil Square,” says Redditor ‘TriggeredLatina_’.
On the other hand, Fortnite fan ‘Glum-Ad-9887’ claims that “these have been there for about a week now.” Fervent Fortnite leaker ‘HYPEX’ alleges that a leaked Season 3 teaser image “matches the tropical theme” that has been heavily rumoured. Changing over to a jungle environment would be a complete juxtaposition to the current trappings of the Fortnite island, allowing for some unique interactions. Swinging on vines like Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones? We may have frowned upon it on the big screen, but these Tarzan-style antics could be a blast. It’d certainly be a fitting setting for an Avatar collaboration, but we’re just speculating for now.
Leaks surrounding the Fortnite Durian event could shape up to an excellent end-season event, but we’ll just have to see how Epic Games keeps Fortnite within the ranks of the best battle royale games on PS5 and Xbox.
