Steam update teases Elden Ring DLC news for PS5 and Xbox players

FromSoft fans have been waiting months for more on the new Elden Ring DLC coming to PS5 and Xbox, and we may be about to learn a lot more.

If you’re a FromSoftware fanatic waiting for more information on the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, we have some good news for you – but, you may want to temper your excitement a little bit. The SteamDB page for Elden Ring is being updated rather irregularly ahead of The Game Awards and, with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion waiting in the wings, we could be days away from new information on this post-launch content update.

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring – one of the best RPG games of 2022 from a studio known for producing the best soulslike games out there right now – is one of the best games of all time. Fans of this fresh franchise have spent hundreds of hours fighting – and more than enough time dying – in The Lands Between and more information on the Elden Ring DLC release date and the expansion itself is something we – and hundreds of thousands of others – have been waiting months to for. In fact, it’s been so long it’s almost easy to think FromSoftware has forgotten all about it.

Thankfully, though, that doesn’t seem to the the case – far from it, in fact. Eagle-eyed Elden Ring fan ‘Ziostorm‘ – a soulslike content creator – has spotted a series of irregular updates on the Elden Ring SteamDB page. This is something really only someone who checks regularly will be able to spot – so, don’t panic if you look at SteamDB and can’t quite work out what you’re supposed to be seeing. In any case, while this could be nothing, so take all of this with a pinch of salt until we know more officially, the rumored release date for the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion (of late 2023 / early 2024) and the fact that The Game Awards’ 2023 show is so close seems to suggest that an update is on the way – and that’s very exciting.

As you can see in the post below, there are several SteamDB updates from a handful of weeks ago clustered together and ‘Ziostorm’ reports that several more updates have been introduced in the hours after his original post – which confirms that any regular pattern of updates for these files is definitely being disrupted. Updates like this often mean a title update for the game in question – be that one that makes drastic changes and Quality of Life improvements or otherwise – is on the way. The fact that Elden Ring is well over a year old now also suggests that this is related to something a little more major than a handful of bug fixes, which gives this theory even more authority.

At the moment, however, outside this official announcement (from February 28, 2023) showing a rather uninformative piece of concept art, we don’t know anything at all about the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Speculation on the name suggests that we’re going to learn more about the mysterious Erdtree itself – perhaps even through some time travel to the Erdtree’s origins – but that’s pretty much it.

The image, which you can check out yourself below, could mean any number of things; when you think about what FromSoftware has done with Elden Ring so far, too, the field of ghosts and darker Erdtree in the distance could really mean anything.

If you want to tune into The Game Awards yourself, it kicks off on December 7 at 16:30 PST / 19:30 EST and December 8 at 00:30 GMT on YouTube and Twitch – among other streaming platforms. Microsoft’s already teasing some major Xbox news at The Game Awards and we don’t think it’s outrageous to go into the show expecting something on Elden Ring either. However, only time will tell – so, we’ll all just have to wait and see what Geoff Keighley and Co. have in store for us.

For those of you just getting stuck into Elden Ring, though, you can check out the best Elden Ring boss order right here and all the Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations here. There may be quite a few new PS5 games and new Xbox games worth checking out, but Elden Ring is already a classic and well worth your time this holiday season – and beyond, when the DLC drops.
