Get your first look at Black Ops 6 with these cryptic teasers

Feast your eyes upon the first Black Ops 6 teaser footage, which has us both scratching our heads and excited for the next Call of Duty game.

When strange clips of masked soldiers, Mount Rushmore, and CRT TVs appear, it can only mean Treyarch is teasing a new Call of Duty game. This is just a taste of what the first Black Ops 6 teaser includes ahead of the game’s appearance at the June Xbox Showcase. But what does it all mean?

Get your tin foil hat out of storage and join the Call of Duty community’s hunt for clues, as there is definitely more to be found within the first of seemingly six teasers. The first clip, which is available to view either below or on the game’s mysterious new interactive website, depicts a team of soldiers heading to Mount Rushmore. All of them are sporting the ‘Cerberus’ logo on their backpacks, an emblem that was previously linked to the game’s codename. After a deadly climb to the top, Mount Rushmore’s cliff face is covered with banners that proclaim the following message: “The Truth Lies.”

It’s the same brand of conspiracy theory chaos that the Black Ops games are known for. Similar clips emerged for the reveal of Black Ops Cold War, as the ‘Know Your History’ marketing campaign hinted at an alternative timeline of key events in history. As we both know, Black Ops Cold War saw players untangle the web of Perseus, a soviet spy who’s legend is shrouded in myth and secrecy. Treyarch has yet to confirm the official title of the forthcoming FPS game, but you and I both know it is likely to be Black Ops entry. After all, Treyarch can’t leave us hanging onto that cliffhanger ending, can it?

Well, it looks like more clips are set to be revealed in the run up to the Xbox Showcase next month, where Black Ops 6 will feature alongside loads more new Xbox games. Currently, you can flick through six TV channels on the teaser site here, but it only shows off today’s initial clip. Pressing the record button will download the clips to your device, if you wish to scrub through them to uncover any hidden secrets. I’ve run through the clips myself, and for now, it doesn’t look like there are any clues beyond walls of static noise.

The next entry in the long-running FPS franchise could introduce some major formula changes, like abandoning a traditional campaign format for an open world game-style approach. With Modern Warfare 3’s open combat missions toying with that approach already, and Treyarch’s Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode also doing the same thing, maybe the days of linear COD campaigns are a thing of the past.
