Warzone Season 3 will see a “meta shift for snipers”

Call of Duty Warzone's sniper meta hasn't changed for a long time, but all of that looks set to change in Warzone Pacific Season 3, according to a developer

When it comes to sniping in Call of Duty Warzone, there are only really two weapons for the job – you’re a fool to try and ping some heads with anything other than a Kar98k Warzone loadout or a Swiss K31 Warzone loadout. However, one of Warzone’s top developers has suggested that won’t be the case once Warzone Season 3 releases towards the end of this month.

Speaking to livestreaming trio the Baka Bros, Ted Timmins, who is the senior creative director at Raven Software, discussed a number of topics regarding the current state of Warzone. During the conversation, Hector ‘Repullze’ Torres suggests that changes should be made to snipers to cut down on the amount of uncounterable one-shot kills popular snipers like the Kar98k and the Swiss can achieve.

While not completely explicit about Raven’s plans, Timmins does reveal that the sniper meta will be getting addressed in Season 3.

“We do plan [to have] a meta shift for snipers in Season 3,” he tells the Baka Bros. “I think we would all agree it’s long overdue – the sniper meta hasn’t changed in what feels like forever. I feel really good about where we’re going with that.”

So, the Warzone meta is going to get a shake up for snipers, but what does that look like? Is it, as Repullze suggested, as simple as nerfing the Kar98k and the Swiss to ensure that they don’t one-shot kill players with a headshot any more? Or could buffs and other changes be made to the pretty redundant snipers that were brought over from Call of Duty Vanguard at the start of Warzone Pacific?

Whatever happens, if you’re a sniping enthusiast, you’re going to want to pay close attention to the Warzone Season 3 patch notes when they drop. The Kar98k and the Swiss have been long-standing entries on our best Warzone guns list, but with a meta shift on the way, their days might be numbered.
