Call of Duty Warzone 2 Season 4 really can’t come soon enough, can it? With rumors that AI are finally being dropped from the core battle royale mode and new weapons and guns to master, there’s a lot to look forward to when the next update drops. Oh, and the latest Warzone 2 Season 4 teaser seems to suggest a return to Verdansk is on the cards. Yes, the original Warzone battle royale map Verdansk may be coming back after all – although, it might not quite be back in the way we want.
Now, we’re not trying to alarm you but Activision has just shared a brand new teaser trailer on the official Call of Duty social media account ahead of Season 4 and it very-clearly shows several scenes set in a Verdansk subway station. A flooded one, at that.
As pointed out specifically by Call of Duty content creator ‘Killer Stidge‘, there are signs written in Cyrillic script – with English translations – that read “Verdansk City” – among other location names related to the original Warzone map.
Similarly, they have pointed out that the word “Verdansk” is written on a wall above a turnstile in a clip where soldiers are running down some stairs. The location looks like a subway station from Verdansk, but this all-but-confirms that the location is-indeed one we’ve seen before.
So, does that mean Verdansk is coming back? Well, we don’t actually think so. Sorry?
When Caldera was first introduced all those many moons ago, Call of Duty made it quite clear that Verdansk was gone for good. It was blown up, and that was that. The end. No more Verdansk – as sad as that is.
When you couple this rather definite sentiment with the fact that new Warzone 2 map Vondel is debuting in Season 4, it seems quite unlikely that we’ll see an entirely new large-scale battle royale map introduced anytime soon. This is especially true when you consider how likely it would have been to see leaks confirming a return of Verdansk before the announcement is made. Call of Duty isn’t as water-tight as you might think and a lot of information ends up getting out before it’s made official.
However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see some sort of Verdansk-based map introduced as a new small-scale, limited-time infiltration zone in DMZ. You know, the ones you needed access cards to get into. There were theories a long time ago that Building 21 was set in Verdansk, too, after all – although, we don’t know how true those are right now.
Killer Stidge, however, seems to think that these could just be teasing a cinematic that shows how Nikto – an operator from the original Warzone – makes his way to Vondel in the current narrative. This, while sad for those of us who would like to see Verdansk again, makes the most sense.
The Season 4 release date is on the horizon, and we should find out just what’s going on with Verdansk when it arrives. For now, it might be best to check up on your best Warzone 2 loadouts and the latest builds for the best Warzone 2 guns. You know, just in case Verdansk does end up returning.
