DMZ, the highly leaked Escape From Tarkov-style extraction mode coming to the Call of Duty series, has finally been confirmed, and it’s going to be a free-to-play mode within Warzone 2 when the battle royale launches this November.
The news was revealed during Call of Duty Next, and while it didn’t get all that much air time, we did get some sense of what we can expect from DMZ. This PvPvE experience is first of all set on the new Warzone 2 map of Al Mazrah, which is set to be an enormous battlefield with Infinity Ward confirming its the biggest battle royale map the Call of Duty series has ever seen.
AI soldiers will be spread out across the whole map, protecting both regular POIs and lucrative Strongholds. These sound like they are a long way from simple bots, with Infinity Ward describing them as “lethal”. If they spot you and engage you, they can also call for reinforcements.
When it comes to how to take on the challenge of DMZ, the choice is really yours. Infinity Ward says that all playstyles are viable – you can go loud, you can be sneaky, you can engage other players, or you can keep yourself to yourself.
You can also choose which missions and challenges you want to take on every time you drop in, or you can choose to simply explore the map to uncover the “secrets of Al Mazrah”.
More details on DMZ will be released prior to the Warzone 2 release date. For now, check out a list of all the Modern Warfare 2 operators you can use in both MW2 and in Warzone 2.
