The holiday season is approaching, and that can only mean a new Call of Duty game is on the horizon. Modern Warfare 3 is currently ushering players in through the MW3 beta, and if you’re feeling compelled to make the leap over to PS5 specifically to play it, Sony has got you covered with a fresh MW3 PS5 bundle. However, while it might be useful to pick up the Sony flagship console with the game, Sony could miss a chance to follow up its Spider-Man 2 PS5 bundle.
Ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 release date, Sony announces on social media that “the PS5 Console – Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Bundle releases [the] same day as the game’s launch.” Retail links for the bundle are yet to be specified, but we speculate it will cost around $479.99/479.99, as this is in line with the previous Modern Warfare 2 package from last year. Notably, Sony doesn’t specify whether this will include the recently announced PS5 Slim model, or whether it will contain the current version of the console or if it will sport a custom design like the one seen in Spider-Man 2 PS5 pre-order listings.
Limited edition consoles appear fleetingly so far throughout the PlayStation 5’s lifespan, with some of the best PS5 games like Final Fantasy 16, Hogwarts Legacy, and God of War Ragnarök only releasing themed controllers or PS5 plates.
The Spider-Man 2 iteration of the console is a milestone in that regard, and with Call of Duty celebrating its 20-year anniversary, it’d make sense to honor that legacy with a Modern Warfare 3 design. With PS5 Slim plates also coming to the market, there’s a chance for Sony to create more game-centric designs for both models, though Sony is planning to phase the current version out.
With the MW3 beta underway and only weeks left till the new Warzone map and MW3 Zombies arrives, a slick design with Task Force 141 on it could be a nice incentive to pick up the bundle. Alternatively, if Sony follows suit with other releases, we’d take a nifty controller to add to the list of best PS5 controllers around.
Back in the day when the original Modern Warfare 3 hit consoles, Microsoft collaborated with Activision for the Modern Warfare 3 (2011) Xbox 360 crossover, with branded the console and controller with a gritty, gun-metal gray aesthetic.
