You can’t go really wrong with Baldur’s Gate 3 when it comes to new RPG games in 2023. Larian Studios throws the kitchen sink at the massive adventure title, giving you a positively overwhelming amount of freedom, whether you want to be a valiant hero or an absolute scoundrel. Amid the launch of the long-awaited Remedy Entertainment sequel, Alan Wake 2, the game’s co-director Sam Lake is looking to step away from The Dark Place and enter the Forgotten Realms.
Speaking to BAFTA about some of the best games he loves across PS5 and Xbox, Lake says that “the next game I’m planning to play is Baldur’s Gate 3, but I can’t play yet.” At the time of the recording, Lake expresses this is due to Remedy Entertainment enduring “the final stretch of getting Alan Wake 2 done, and right at the moment that’s the only game I’m playing.” Now, the Alan Wake 2 release date has arrived, BAFTA jokes to Lake that should “take a week off specifically to play Baldur’s Gate 3.”
With the initial Alan Wake 2 reviews roundup signalling a potential Game of The Year contender, and a 10/10 score in our own Alan Wake 2 review, is it safe to say that Lake and the Remedy team have earned a break. Though Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on PS5 and PC, a Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date is still yet to arrive. Don’t worry though if you prefer playing on the Microsoft console, as a recent update from Larian Studios clarifies that the Xbox version is still very much alive. By the time it does arrive, you’ll also be able to access new features like Baldur’s Gate 3 Photo Mode.
