Alan Wake 2 reviews roundup

You’re so close to stepping foot back into the forests of Bright Falls, as Alan Wake 2 arrives imminently on PS5 and Xbox. The 13-year wait for the Remedy Entertainment sequel might have you worried about whether, well, was it worth it? The first batch of Alan Wake 2 reviews are live now, and it is great news, as critics share glowing write-ups for Wake’s return.

Alan Wake 2 is already emerging as a Game of The Year contender, as well as one of the best horror games in 2023, and that praise begins with the VGC’s Jordan Middler. In his 5/5 review, Middler says that “the decade-long outcry for a sequel to Alan Wake has been answered and answered incredibly […] everything it learned from the live-action elements of Quantum Break and the non-linear exploration and storytelling of Control make Alan Wake 2 a giant of a sequel.”

In our own 10/10 Alan Wake 2 review, The Loadout details that “Alan Wake 2 is an exemplary example of confidently delivering a sequel that adds valuable contributions to the survival horror genre […] it is easily one of the greatest horror games of the last decade, and pending those Max Payne remakes, it is the greatest game Remedy has made yet.”

PCGamesN writer Andrew Farrell writes in their review that “Alan Wake 2 is a sprawling and truly ambitious achievement, with more secrets and surprises behind the curtain than you could possibly imagine.” Despite some shortcomings, Farrell’s 9/10 review states that “with terrific gameplay, no shortage of creativity, and a twisty, dark story, this is simply a must-play experience whether you’re into horror, action, or adventure. Remedy has absolutely outdone itself with Alan Wake 2, delivering a truly remarkable game.”
