Apex Legends shocks fans with bundle the same price as Baldur’s Gate 3

Respawn Entertainment's new Apex Legends' Revenant launch bundle will shockingly set you back just as much as a new RPG game like Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5 and PC.

Fans of Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends are no strangers to microtransactions and monetization, but sometimes you realise that you really are being taken for a fool by the bundles in the battle royale’s store. Sure, this might be one of the best competitive FPS games out there, but it’s also just a bit of a rip-off at times. A prime example of this is Apex Legends’ Revenant Resurrection Launch Bundle – a collection of cosmetics released to celebrate Apex Legends’ Revenant rework and the start of Season 18. If you want to buy this bundle, it will cost you just as much as Baldur’s Gate 3 – 2023’s highest-rated game.

As highlighted by Redditor ‘avskrap‘, the Apex Legends Revenant Resurrection Launch Bundle will set you back a staggering 6,300 Apex Coins. From what we can see, this comes with a Revenant skin, a Havoc weapon skin to match, a sticker, a holo-spray, a dive emote, and a loading screen. It also appears to come with premium access to the Apex Legends Season 18 battle pass, which is valued at around 950 Apex Coins – so, about $10.

When you think about how much this costs in total, which is roughly $60, it’s ridiculous to think about. The cosmetics alone, if you deduct the value of the Apex Legends Season 18 battle pass, are costing you around $50. This bundle will set you back the same price as most triple-A games nowadays – including one of the best RPG games of all time and 2023’s highest rated game: Baldur’s Gate 3.

These two cost exactly the same. Which do you choose?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming PS5 games and you could argue it’s one of the best games of all time. We can’t quite believe that Respawn Entertainment would value a selection of – let’s be honest – quite lacklustre cosmetics the same. The value of what you’re getting for your money couldn’t be more different.

Now, we know what you’re thinking, and you’re right. There are going to be cheaper – slightly less official – ways of buying Baldur’s Gate 3. Not to mention the fact that Baldur’s Gate 3 is slightly more expensive than the Apex Coins bundle you’d need to buy to have enough to purchase Apex Legends’ Revenant Resurrection Launch Bundle in-game on certain platforms.

For example, if you’re looking to buy Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5, you can find it on the PlayStation Store for $69.99 brand-new. However, on Steam, it’s only $59.99 – which is the same price as 6,700 Apex Coins. We know buying this will see you with a few Apex Coins to spare, but you’re still spending $60 if you buy 4,350 Apex Coins and then 2,150 Apex Coins – which would also give you enough.

If you’re wondering how the general public are reacting to this, there’s actually a rather interesting debate going on in the comments under the thread highlighting this. On the one side, people are outraged at the state of microtransactions in modern gaming – as you’d imagine. However, quite a few players are highlighting the fact that Apex Legends is free-to-play and this is a way for players to support the game they play.

Is the Apex Legends Revenant Resurrection Launch Bundle something you should buy? Well, we can’t decide that for you. However, we do think there’s more value in using your money to buy games like Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to know whether that is worth your money, you can find out more about Baldur’s Gate 3’s length right here and the Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 release date here. If you’re an Xbox player, you can find out more about the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release window, here. You may be waiting a while, though.
