Celeste – August 1
Celeste is an indie-darling that has now finally made its way onto Game Pass so even more people can enjoy it. In Celeste, you will help Madeline battle her inner demons as she journeys to the top of Celeste Mountain, full of mystery and platforming puzzles.
With intense platforming and a surprisingly sincere and heartfelt narrative, there’s lots of love in Celeste.
A Short Hike – August 3
Like Celeste, A Short Hike is a similarly beloved indie game in which you journey to the top of a mountain. However, with a unique style and more relaxed tone, A Short Hike is an incredibly relaxing and evocative experience. As you hike up the mountain, you will meet other animal hikers, discover treasure, and simply take in the world around you.
It’s a gem you don’t want to miss out on, especially now that it’s one of the Xbox Game Pass August 2023 games.
Broforce Forever – August 8
On the opposite end of the scale is Broforce Forever, an action-packed side-scrolling run ‘n’ gun game that will see you in control of burly action heroes to save the day. It’s chaotic action is certainly a lot of fun and often quite challenging.
Limbo – August 9
Limbo is another stellar indie title that has won several awards since its release. Boasting an eerie and immersive atmosphere, complete with great puzzle design, Limbo is for those fancying a haunting yet endearing game. While many players have likely already experienced Limbo, it’s definitely worth a shot if you haven’t.
Airborne Kingdom – August 10
Airborne Kingdom is a airborne city-builder and management game that sees you growing your own town among the clouds. It’s a unique setting for a management sim that makes it a breath of fresh air in the genre.
Everspace 2 – August 15
Everspace 2 is a fast-paced single-player space shooter that puts you in the pilot seat of a spaceship. With a plenty of brutal challenges and space encounters, as well as an intriguing narrative in the war-torn star systems of the Demilitarized Zone of Cluster 34, it’s an enthralling experience for sure.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – August 18
Get behind the chainsaw or run from it when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game finally arrives in August. As a day one release for subscribers, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an asymmetrical horror game, tasking players with either finding the tools and escaping the Slaughter Family, or becoming a member of the family and hunting down their victims.
Sea of Stars – August 29
After a delay from a broad 2022 window to an equally broad 2023 window, Sea of Stars is finally releasing as a day one Game Pass addition. A turn-based RPG with a retro-inspired look, Sea of Stars tells the story of two children, who must combine their powers to perform Eclipse Magic and fend off the evil alchemist called The Fleshmancer.
