Kuro Games’ highly anticipated ARPG, Wuthering Waves, has generated a huge amount of hype since it was initially teased back in 2022. While it’s destined for PS5 in the future, its release on other platforms is just around the corner, and to celebrate the studio has revealed it has notched up a staggering 30 million pre-registrations (and counting). As a new gacha hit is soon to be born, Kuro has also revealed a new livestream promising new details will air on Sunday, May 19 at 6:30 pm PT / 9:30 pm ET / 2:30 am BST.
At the time of writing, Wuthering Waves has sailed past 31.5 million pre-registrations – a quite frankly ridiculous number. With Kuro’s pre-set incentive milestones now all met, you’re going to be drowning in rewards when the RPG game launches on Wednesday, May 22. To indicate how quickly we’ve reached this point, the 20 million mark was only passed at the end of April.
Putting these numbers into context, even HoYoverse goliaths Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail only managed to pass the 10 million mark in the week ahead of their respective September 2020 and April 2023 launches. Of course, these are apples-to-oranges comparisons – Genshin walked so games like Wuthering Waves could run, while Star Rail is a turn-based RPG as opposed to an open-world game with action-based combat. Nonetheless, it’s still an incredibly impressive feat. If you haven’t already pre-registered, you can do so here.
To further celebrate the upcoming big day, Kuro has also scheduled in a ‘Reveal Livestream’ for Sunday, which according to the YouTube description “will include some first-hand information about the official release – featured events and bonuses that you don’t want to miss.” Though I don’t expect us to hear any more about the Wuthering Waves PS5 release date on top of what Kuro told me at Marchs’ Game Developers Conference, a surprise confirmation would go down a treat.
WuWa is the 2024 gacha game I’m easily the most excited for, having had the chance to get hands-on with it at GDC. Between its gorgeous setting, challenging combat, and unique twist thanks to the inclusion of Echoes (don’t forget to do the web event to get your free one!), I can’t wait to get back onto Solaris-3. It might even get me out of the Honkai-sized hole I’ve been (very happily) trapped in for the past several months…
