Wolverine PS5 will continue as planned despite leaks, Insomniac says

Following a major information breach, Spider-Man 2 studio Insomniac Games confirms that Wolverine will continue development for PS5.

Wolverine PS5 leaks Insomniac Games

Following a major data breach for Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac Games, concerns about the future of the upcoming Wolverine game are the topic of debate. The title, which is still in early development, saw huge amounts of production footage and assets emerge online. Considerably bigger than the GTA 6 leak last year, Insomniac Games is now setting the record straight on the future of the forthcoming PS5 game.

Marvel’s Wolverine is an extremely anticipated new PS5 game, especially after the immense success of Spider-Man 2. It was first revealed in 2021, and since then, Insomniac Games has continued development quietly. In a recent statement addressing the Ransomware incident earlier this week, the studio says that “we’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.”

As the studio continues “working quickly to determine what data was impacted”, it expresses that “like Logan…Insomniac [Games] is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans.” Until the studio is ready to reveal more regarding the Wolverine release date and gameplay details, the studio clarifies that it “will share official information about Marvel’s Wolverine when the time is right.”

The situation regarding Wolverine isn’t just concerning for the state of the game, but also for Insomniac Games employees. Alongside extractions of confidential development documents, personal information is said to also be included in this unfortunate infiltration. However, Insomniac Games promises that the studio remains “focused inwardly” on supporting its staff at this unprecedented time for the studio.

It follows another breach regarding a currently unannounced Spider-Verse game. Whether this is still part of Insomniac Games’ plans for the future remains to be seen. In the meantime, despite this unfortunate situation, we can still look forward to what the team will deliver when Wolverine does arrive.

Outside the character’s appearance in Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the Ultimate Alliance franchise, the most memorable Wolverine game for many fans is undoubtedly the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie tie-in game. Providing players with an uncompromisingly gory depiction of the Adamantium-infused hero, it remains one of the better tie-in titles to ever be released.
