New Spider-Verse PS5 game in development? Ransomware leaks suggest so

After the ransomware attack that affected Insomniac Games, evidence has pointed towards the PS5 developer working on a Spider-Verse game.

All signs are pointing toward a new Spider-Verse game for PS5 players to enjoy, especially after those very obvious teases in the Spider-Man 2 game. And now, after a tough start to the week for the team at Insomniac Games, which suffered a ransomware attack from the organization Rhysidia, further leaks purport that a fully-fledged Spider-Verse title is in the works alongside Marvel’s Wolverine.

Spotted by Redditor ‘sut345’, additional leaks from the Insomniac Games Ransomeware attack showcase a list of potentially planned new PS5 games. The first image includes a list of planned Insomniac Games titles. First on the list is a Miles game, which was released back in 2020 alongside the PS5, while the second title is ‘RCE’, which could be a codename for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Third on the list is SM2 for Spider-Man 2. It then goes on to add SM3, possibly Spider-Man 3, and it cuts off with the word ‘Spider’.

Another screenshot shared by the same user, a personnel file from an employee seems to read “additional support for Spider-Verse”. This all depends on whether the Rhysidia documents are real, but given the fact that the ransomware attack also shared images of Wolverine, it seems likely.

Spider-Man 2 has already gone on to become one of the best PS5 games of all time, further cementing Insomniac Games as an extraordinary developer during this generation. While the developer is setting its sights on the Wolverine game release date, which is one of the most exciting PS5 exclusives set to release soon, further proof from the Rhysidia attack points at a Spider-Verse game.

For those who haven’t played the latest adventure from the wall-crawler, and if you don’t mind minor spoilers, Spider-Man 2 had a side quest that tasked players with collecting a variety of Spider-Bots across the best open world game. After collecting them all, a portal similar to those found in the Spider-Verse movies would appear, with a bartender named Delilah making a sarcastic comment before collecting all the Spider-Bots from you.

While the idea of a Spider-Verse game sounds exciting as a premise, especially if it ends up being one of the best co-op games due to the multiverse of all Spider-Heroes we could play, but nothing has been announced yet. However, it appears that Insomniac Games may be working on a Spider-Verse game, with the Rhysidia attack offering documents with an unannounced list of titles.

Putting two things together, it seems that the Spider-Verse game, if real, could be the rumored multiplayer live-service game from Insomniac Games. Eurogamer reported that the team was looking for a Systems Designer for Multiplayer back in 2021. We imagine that a Spider-Verse title, with less focus on individual characters but the multiverse of the Spider-Verse itself, would make for an exciting multiplayer adventure.

Until it’s officially announced, though, the Spider-Verse game is just a pipe dream (or nightmare) for Marvel fans. However, the best multiplayer games list has plenty of titles for PS5 players to enjoy, or you can check out our Spider-Man 2 review if you’ve missed out on Insomniac’s latest experience.
