The Day Before is so mysterious, even the Discord mods are sceptical

Following its disappearance from Steam and a lack of new gameplay footage, The Day Before's fans and Discord mods are unsure whether the game actually exists.

The Day Before is an intriguing game, to say the least. Revealed in January 2021, developer Fntastic impressed with its blend of The Division and The Last of Us. However, just weeks out from its release, the game has been delisted from Steam, mystifying its own Discord mods and members in the process.

Though promises of new footage have been put on the table, The Day Before hasn’t really given players anything meaty to tuck into. We’ve only seen glimpses of The Day Before so far, via the game’s announcement trailer and a brief showcase in April 2021. In tandem with its evasive development, the game’s secretive nature has caused confusion among the game’s Discord community.

The Day Before’s lead Discord mod teased on January 15 that “we will be releasing raw gameplay footage, as per the numerous quests from our community.” Now, the very same mod has confirmed nobody on their team “saw the gameplay” which is allegedly due to drop by the end of the month. This revelation comes after the game’s disappearance from Steam.

In a further series of Discord messages, posted by YouTuber ‘Skill Up‘ on Twitter, the game’s lead Discord mod says that to “those who wonder, if the game is real, I’m wondering the same as well right now.”

We have yet to gain further insight into the game’s lore, mechanics, and what players can expect to do in their adventures. Aside from a handful of uneventful developer blogs, news of a gameplay showcase will now have to wait. Recently The Day Before was removed from Steam, as a trademark claim blocks usage of the game’s own title.

The developer cites copyright issues for its removal: “Steam blocked our game page at the request of a private individual, because of the name The Day Before […] previously, we were not aware of these claims. We found out about this only on January 23, 2023.”

Additionally, Fntastic adds clarifies that “we previously planned to post a lengthy gameplay video later this month, but we’ll have to wait to sort this issue out first.” However, the real punch for The Day Before fans is “the difficult decision to postpone the launch to November 10, 2023.”

It remains to be seen when a date will be confirmed for the game’s next gameplay showcase. Nevertheless, The Day Before remains a highly anticipated game for many, as it joins the ranks of all upcoming PS5 games for 2023 and beyond.
