The long-awaited PlayStation Showcase 2024 could soon arrive on our screens, with some of Sony’s biggest upcoming games set to feature. According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, either a new State of Play, or a larger showcase akin to what PlayStation flaunted in May 2023, is on the cards. Additionally, there’s an expectation that we’ll finally learn when Konami’s eagerly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake will arrive on PS5.
“I have heard that there will be a PlayStation ‘something’ – either a State of Play or a showcase – next month, in May, so this [Silent Hill 2] is probably going to be there,” Grubb says on the Giant Bombcast. Of course, this isn’t a confirmation by Grubb that Bloober Team’s remake of the 2001 classic will be there. Rather, it’s an expectation considering the horror game’s supposed to drop this year, with no release date currently in sight.
“I’ve heard both a showcase and maybe State of Play,” Grubb adds. “It seems like it might lean towards showcase – it’s definitely in that timeframe of when they did the showcase last year.” Resident ResetEra leaker ‘John Harker’ originally reported back in January that a “May ‘E3’ show” is en route – Grubb’s latest comments seemingly corroborate it.
PlayStation enjoyers were feasting at the May 2023 showcase. Over 30 games got their time in the spotlight during the one-hour-and-change event. These included bestselling PS5 exclusives like Helldivers 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as well as some of the other best games to launch over the past year. The surprisingly popular PlayStation Portal was also revealed at the time.
Though there’s plenty of reputable smoke surrounding a possible 2024 PlayStation Showcase next month, we’ll now have to play the waiting game until Sony itself confirms there’s fire on the horizon. The May 2023 showcase was officially announced a week before the event, so we expect a similar sort of notice period this time around.
In terms of what else might be included in this showcase aside from Silent Hill 2, we may finally see gameplay of a couple of projects from PlayStation’s big live service push. Concord is Sony’s attempt to get one of the best FPS games in its first-party roster, and given it’s currently billed for a 2024 release, we’re hopeful that it will be included. Fairgames is another, and while its release date is even more ambiguous than Concord’s, it feels like a prime candidate.
On the hardware front, we may also finally get confirmation and a full reveal of the heavily-leaked PS5 Pro console.
