Sifu will reportedly (roundhouse) kick off the PS Plus March line-up

Having begun its life as a PlayStation exclusive, martial arts masterclass Sifu is reportedly spearheading March’s PS Plus offerings for PS4 and PS5.

Kung-fu fighter Sifu is set to lead the March PS Plus lineup, according to a fresh report from reliable leaker ‘billbil-kun’. Between Tuesday, March 5 and Tuesday, April 2, 2024, PS Plus subscribers across all of the service’s tiers will be able to kick off their martial arts journey on PS4 and PS5 for free.

Joining the list of PS5 exclusives back in February 2022, Sifu proved a hit among critics and fans alike. At launch, it earned itself a generally favorable 81 on Metacritic. To date, it has sold over three million copies. One of that year’s best games, developer Sloclap eventually ported it to Nintendo Switch later that year, before bringing it to Xbox in 2023. Now, the standard edition of the indie hit will be returning to its roots as one of the free PS Plus games on the service.

For the uninitiated, Sifu is a third-person fighting game with a twist. As a young martial artist seeking revenge for your fallen master, your strikes aren’t particularly powerful, though this is offset by your youthful vitality. However, each time you die, you age. With age comes experience, and as the protagonist progresses through their life cycle they’ll grow stronger at the expense of a smaller health pool. Sharing some of the stylings commonly found in the best roguelike games, once you die at your oldest age, your run ends.

If you haven’t had a chance to play Sifu yet then we’d recommend you do so. It’s easy to pick up, and cripplingly hard to put down as you seek to master your moves. While billbil-kun doesn’t specify the other free games coming to PS Plus in March, if they are of a similar caliber then we’re in for a very strong batch of bangers indeed.

Before one of the best PS5 games arrives on PS Plus, though, be sure to get your mitts on February’s trio of Foamstars, Rollerdrome, and Steelrising before they’re gone for good. After Foamstars leaves the service it’ll set you back $29.99 in the PlayStation Store, so lob it into your library as soon as possible if you haven’t already.
