Your PS5 may be recording your trophy celebrations

Here's how to turn off PS5 trophy video and audio recording

Demon's Souls Tower Knight battle

If you consider yourself to be something of a trophy hunter, you may well have noticed that your PS5 records the gameplay just before and after a trophy pops, capturing the moment for posterity. What you might not have realised, however, is that the console throws in any audio picked up by your mic.

Yes, deep within your PS5’s storage likely lies a couple dozen sound recordings of you screaming “let’s gooo!”, “yasss!”, or perhaps something decidedly more explicit. If you’ve left your mic unmuted and opted to include its audio in video recordings, then be sure to head into Settings, Storage, then Media Gallery to see what dirt your PS5 has on you.

Even if you’ve been smart and muted your headset, chances are that you’ll still have several minutes of storage-wasting videos to delete. To save yourself the hassle of sorting through future clips, just make a quick trip to Settings, Captures and Broadcasts, then Trophies to turn trophy recording off for good.

While some may be horrified to learn that their joyous outbursts have been quietly captured, the feature has resulted in a delightful little video from Reddit user Helloiamjack, whose PS5 recorded his celebration after downing Demon’s Souls tricky Tower Knight boss.
