PlayStation State of Play rumors are intensifying, and now we may not only know which games are on the shortlist, but also when PS5 players can tune in.

Rumors surrounding a new PlayStation State of Play have intensified, and it could be imminent. According to a fresh report from industry insider ‘Shpeshal Nick’, the showcase PS4 and PS5 players have been waiting for will land “roughly” on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Nick has also served up a cryptic list of upcoming games we can expect to see.

Nick’s tweet clearly alludes to a mixture of reveals and updates from PlayStation revolving around Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Sonic Generations Remaster, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Judas, the Until Dawn remaster, and a brand new Metro game. Should this materialize then we’re in for a real treat, with some of the most hotly-anticipated new PS5 games set to get air time – Silent Hill!

Digging into the list a little, as Rise of the Ronin and FF7R already have concrete release dates this quarter, we’re expecting to see larger gameplay showcases from Team Ninja and Square Enix. When it comes to DS2 and Judas, we’ll hopefully get to finally see some gameplay crumbs from both after their respective reveals at 2022’s The Game Awards. In regards to Kojima’s highly-anticipated sequel, the full title of the game also leaked recently, giving more credence to Shpeshal Nick’s claim that it will feature.

Meanwhile, Until Dawn resurfacing may come as a surprise to some, but if you’ve been keeping up to date then you’ll know that a PC and PS5 version was recently leaked. Though you may have one of the best horror games in your library already thanks to the now-defunct PlayStation Plus Collection, there could be plenty of bells and whistles that make it worth the upgrade.

The initial rumblings surrounding Sony’s first State of Play of 2024 were felt earlier this month when Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb revealed that it would arrive soon after Xbox’s Developer Direct. At the time, Rory postulated several games we’d love to see make the cut – be sure to check the list out. While many of the titles in that list haven’t been mentioned in the latest rumor, this writer’s still holding out for a little Snake-shaped cameo (get your head out of the gutter).
