New PS Store sale makes this underrated Ubisoft shooter worth playing

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is better than you think, and this new PS Store sale drops the game’s price down by a massive 80%.

With PS5 and Xbox shooter XDefiant on the horizon, you might feel like revisiting Ubisoft’s library. There’s so much to choose from, but I reckon that giving Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint one more chance is the path to take. Luckily, now is the perfect time to play it, as the new PlayStation Store sale offers a huge 80% saving on the game.

Joining the ranks of new PS5 games and PS4 titles on sale in the Big Games Big Deals range, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is currently available for just $11.99/£8.99. Normally, the Ubisoft third-person shooter retails for $59.99/£59.99 on the PS Store, so you’re netting yourself a tasty discount of 85% and 80% depending on your region. Now, I wouldn’t blame you if you completely shunned Ghost Recon Breakpoint when it initially debuted back in 2019.

Despite promising previews and the return of Jon Bernthal on the cards, Ubisoft’s next open world game addition to the series was riddled with issues at launch. However, time heals all wounds, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint is in fighting shape these days to dive into. For me, it’s the closest thing to a new Just Cause game I can get, with a large tropical vista and heaps of weaponry at my disposal for a full scale island liberation.

Yet, instead of blowing everything up into oblivion like Just Cause, Breakpoint pins the focus on tactical combat and decimating your enemies with every tool at your disposal. Merging RPG game elements with combat akin to later Metal Gear Solid entries like The Phantom Pain, you can spend plenty of time equipping yourself with the best armaments before setting foot on the battlefield.

In my play through, I’ve been trying to maintain a highly stealth approach, opting for silenced weaponry and using the Echelon class’ abilities to turn myself into a Sam Fisher prodigy. And if you are a massive Splinter Cell fan, Fisher (voiced by Michael Ironside once more) does actually feature in the game’s Deep State DLC.

Outside of living your wildest espionage dreams, Breakpoint’s community is still thriving to this day and often encourages players to engage it’s in co-op game focused features.

YouTubers like ‘DEEF’ are still highlighting the game’s suite of toggles that can turn Breakpoint into a hyperrealistic experience, where one bad move can cost your squad dearly.
