Alan Wake 2 was one of the biggest successes of 2023 and a close runner-up against Baldur’s Gate 3 for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. With its artsy horror vibes following the titular Alan Wake and newcomer FBI agent Saga Anderson, its narrative is certainly one worth experiencing. Thankfully, PS5 players who are still on the fence don’t have to take the plunge right away as PS Plus Premium subscribers now have access to a free trial of Alan Wake 2.

The Loadout’s own Game of the Year 2023 winner, scoring a rare 10/10 in our Alan Wake 2 review, Remedy Entertainment knocked it out of the park to create one of the best horror games on PS5 and Xbox. With no physical release, however, you’ve got to either take a gamble and pay full price, or wait for a digital sale. However, millions of PS Plus subscribers now have the chance to try before they buy.

Beginning on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, PS Plus Premium subscribers will have access to a three-hour trial of Alan Wake 2. To access this amazing benefit, simply head to the PS Plus section found to the left of your PS5 home screen and view the Game Trial category. Here, you can download the time-limited Alan Wake 2 demo or purchase the full game.

While three hours might not sound like much, it’s important to remember that Alan Wake 2 is a focused, narrative-driven experience. With no hard limit on progress, you can technically progress as far as you can through the game within that three-hour window.

In fact, you could technically beat the game if you know all the speed-running strategies – but that’s obviously not the way we recommend enjoying Alan Wake 2. For the average player, this trial will let you experience just under a quarter of the game. Additionally, any progress made during the free trial will carry over into the full game, so there’s no need to worry about replaying the early hours. Just remember not to leave the application open if you walk away as the timer starts ticking whenever the game is open – you don’t want to waste your demo sitting on the main menu.

Alan Wake 2 isn’t the only game trial available to PS Plus Premium subscribers either. This new addition joins the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2, Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Spider-Man 2, The Witcher 3, and much more. In other words, you can try out a heap of the best PS5 games to see if they’re your style.

While you’re waiting for your Alan Wake 2 trial to download, take a look at all the PS Plus Extra and Premium games available right now, as well as the PS Plus free games that come with the Essential tier. From the best RPG games to the best FPS games, there’s plenty to choose from at no extra cost.
