Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has already revealed a couple of gym leaders in the build up to launch, but the latest is Iono – an Electric-type specialist that also wouldn’t go amiss on the front page of Twitch.
In a high-energy reveal video, made to look like one of her popular livestreams to the people of Paldea, Iono introduces herself as a fan of all things Electric with a yellow puffer coat, Magnemite hair clips, and a challenge for her viewers to guess her partner Pokémon.
Iono claims that her partner Pokémon is “squishy”, “a little sluggish with an easygoing vibe”, and has “two bumps on its head that people always mistake for eyes”. Oh, and it contracts and expands its own body to generate electricity.
From a glance over the 70+ Pokémon that have Electric an typing, we can’t seem to find a match, so it seems likely that Iono is talking about another new Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
Five potential new Pokémon were snuck into the previous info drop for Scarlet and Violet, but none of them appear to be a direct match either. Admittedly, there was a mouse-like Pokémon that was spotted, and there is a history of each region having its own ‘Pikachu clone’ Electric rodent Pokémon (the most recent being Sword and Shield’s Morpeko), but that might be a bit of a reach.
Iono is the third Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gym leader to have been revealed so far, following Ice-type specialist Grusha and Grass-type specialist Brassius.
