NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 is on the way and it could very-well be the best fighting game we’ve ever seen. However, as much as you might think MK1 is going to be the perfect competitive multiplayer game (which it certainly could be), it’s also going to be a great game for fighting game fans who want to play on their own. Why is that? Well, that’s because of Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions – a new single-player mode noticed in boxart leaks recently.
Initially shared in Portuguese by Redditor ‘DeffersonCamargo‘, who spotted it on a Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders page on PlayStation Brazil, and translated by ‘thethiny‘ on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions is described as a game mode where players will “travel the Mortal Kombat Realms facing each season’s invasions”. Doesn’t that sound fun?
If you want to see what this “all-new experience” is all about, you’re going to have to wait a little bit. At the moment, that’s pretty much all we have. Although, we don’t think we’ll have to wait too long for more information on it; the Mortal Kombat 1 release date is on the way and NetherRealm Studios has been sharing quite a lot when it comes to the Mortal Kombat 1 characters we’ll see in-game in recent weeks.
While it’s worth taking this with a pinch of salt, as these things are always subject to change ahead of anything official, you can check out the boxart leaks for yourself down below:
As you can see, this rather-interestingly suggests some form of seasonal content is coming to Mortal Kombat 1. Of course, MK11 did have seasonal-like content in the past, but could we see something more robust and regimented in the future? Only time will tell, but this does bode well. However, Invasions could offer a system incorporating rotating Towers just as easily as it could incorporate MK11’s Krypt.
If you want a closer look at the image, you can find an upscaled version here. It looks like this game mode will be a regimented, pre-planned path through Mortal Kombat 1’s Realms – not an open-world experience.
However, ultimately, all we can do is speculate until we know more – which should be sooner rather than later. There are Mortal Kombat 1 beta dates and Mortal Kombat 1 early access opportunities coming up, after all.
For now, why not read up on why Mortal Kombat 1’s timeline refresh could mean Takeda is someone else entirely and how Scorpion really isn’t who you think he is in this new timeline.
