New easter eggs name two potential upcoming Spider-Man 2 DLC villains

If you want to know who you might be crossing paths with in upcoming Spider-Man 2 DLC, two new teasers hint at Shroud and Kingpin's return.

We don’t have any official announcements to talk about just yet, but there’s mounting evidence to suggest that Insomniac Games is set to release some rather exciting Spider-Man 2 DLC – with Daredevil and The Hand playing a major role. While exciting, new evidence reinforcing the theories spawned by the infamous ‘Secret Room’ and missing Nelson and Murdock signage suggest that two interesting characters will feature as Spider-Man 2 DLC villains in the future. If so, both Spider-Men and the Devil of Hells Kitchen have their work cut out for them.

If you’re looking for some new PS5 games to get stuck into, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 should absolutely be at the top of your list – if you’re a Marvel Comics fan or not. As our Spider-Man 2 review details, this is one of the best PS5 exclusives of all time and a truly wonderful experience with slick traversal mechanics, satisfying combat, and a gripping narrative. However, as good as this adventure is at the moment, it looks like Spider-Man and Spider-Man aren’t the only heroes heading to Insomniac Games’ New York City in this recent release. With post-launch content featuring Daredevil and The Hand heavily teased, eagle-eyed Spider-Man fans think they have found evidence that Shroud and Kingpin will be joining the growing list of Spider-Man 2 villains.

A handful of days ago, Spider-Man 2 players started stumbling across a ‘Secret Room’ which – by looking at what’s inside and the iconography used on the walls – seems to be a hideout for The Hand. If you’re not sure what The Hand is, they’re – to summarize – an organization of evil mystical ninjas that practice occult magic, assassinate people, and get up to all sorts of organized crime. Often in conflict with Daredevil, this only adds fuel to the fire that upcoming Spider-Man 2 DLC is going to feature the blind vigilante.

When you couple this with the fact that Spider-Man 2 removes these nods to Daredevil and Insomniac Games’ senior creative director Bryan Intihar is saying “stay tuned” when asked about the character’s fate in Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man universe, there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that Daredevil will feature in some upcoming Spider-Man 2 DLC.

But, what about the enemies? Are the faceless ninjas of The Hand really going to be the only thing Spider-Man, Spider-Man, and Daredevil have to worry about?

Well, while a little loose when taken in isolation, one Spider-Man 2 player has found two new teasers that suggest both Shroud and Kingpin will play a part in upcoming Spider-Man 2 DLC. As you can see below, eagle-eyed web-slinger ‘crwnedprince‘ has spotted a street sign referencing Shroud and evidence that something strange is going on inside the recently-constructed Fisk Tower.

We know a Shroud name-drop would normally just be a fun little easter egg, but as an adversary of Daredevil, it seems like something more. In the same way that you see Venom tangle with other heroes, but he’s still a Spider-Man villain, Shroud tanlges with Daredevil the most. He has crossed paths with Spider-Man a handful of times, and worked with Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) on occasion. However, finding this alongside all the other Daredevil teasers can’t be a coincidence.

Beyond that, the fact that something is going on in Fisk Tower right now could suggest that Kingpin himself is coming back. A major adversary of both Spider-Man (and Spider-Man) and Daredevil, Kingpin could act as a catalyst to bring the three heroes together before dealing with The Hand. The fact that there’s been no mention of Daredevil before in Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series would suggest that they don’t really know eachother. So, an introduction would probably be needed before tackling an organization like The Hand.

On the other hand, though (no pun intended), this could mean The Hand is using Fisk Tower to conceal their activities while Fisk himself is incarcerated. Wilson Fisk and The Hand have a history of collaboration in Marvel Comics and the fact that it’s still being treated as “under construction” despite looking finished from the outside could be a sign something a little strange is going on inside. Or, if you look at how Netflix’s Daredevil series uses the Midland Circle building, it could just be hiding a giant hole.

Either way, we would be surprised if Wilson Fisk – as Kingpin or otherwise – isn’t involved in some capacity. His strong ties to both Daredevil and Spider-Man, and his absence from Spider-Man 2 thus far, make him a perfect candidate for a new villain in any upcoming DLC. Of course, though, only time will tell.

Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 one of the best open world games of all time? Absolutely. Is it one of the best PS5 games of all time, too? Without a doubt. Should you check it out if you get the chance? Yes, but you may also want to invest in one of the best PS5 SSDs if you haven’t expanded your internal storage yet. Spider-Man 2 isn’t the smallest game and any DLC is bound to make it bigger.
