Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an exciting chapter in the Peter Parker/Miles Morales saga, with new villains Venom and Kraven The Hunter arriving in New York City. However, these pesky baddies aren’t the only new additions from Insomniac Games, as new claims report that an innovative dialogue feature will be used in-game. Now, avid Spider-Man fans are theorising that the AI tool ChatGPT could be key to making it work.
Ahead of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date, a new Twitch stream on the official Insomniac Games channel sheds light on the next Spidey game. Lead engine programmer Elan Ruskin is asked about his favourite details that appeared in the games he has worked on thus far. “Most of the fact that all of our games run in frame […] we all do the work to squeeze it into memory, and into performance and get it to run smoothly. Also, there is some pretty cool dialogue technology coming up in the next game,” Ruskin says.
Ruskin is coy about what this dialogue technology will entail. Though it is yet to be confirmed, fans are eager to see GTA 5 style switching between Peter and Miles. If this is the case, then their adventures around New York City will surely yield unique opportunities. The prospect of this technology is already producing theories from Marvel fanatics, as they believe that ChatGPT could be integrated into the game.
Redditor ‘Nicologixs‘ ponders that “Insomniac has harnessed the power of ChatGPT 4.0 and player speech to text to have interactive conversations with NPC’s.” The powerful AI technology has risen in popularity as of late, following Microsoft’s announcement that search engine Bing would utilise it to aid the gathering of information for users.
This will legitimately be the future of some games though, being able to actually talk to characters and they will reply in an accurate way as the character they are and sound perfect because AI voice tech is getting so advanced as well,” the Redditor adds. Of course, while this is purely speculative, the idea of deeper immersion in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has fans like ‘SourceScope‘ excited: “Honestly, a game where you can talk to random NPCs and they actually have [random] dialogue would be awesome.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is included on our list of upcoming PS5 games for 2023, which is already stacked with some heavy hitters.
