As the 2022 League of Legends Championship Series drew to a close, crowning Cloud9 as the North American champion and first seed heading into LoL Worlds, there was only one piece of business left to conduct – the Worlds 2022 draw.
During the draw show, LCS legends Marcus ‘Dyrus’ Hill, Hai ‘Hai’ Du Lam, and Jake ‘Xmithie’ Puchero were invited to each preside over one of the three drawing pools for both stages. Pool One featured the fourth seeds from the LCK, and LPL, as well as the LEC third seed and the runner-up from the PCS. The second pool included the LEC fourth seed, LCS third seed, LJL first seed, and VCS runner-up.
The third and final pool was made up of the champions of the LCO, TCL, CBLOL, and LLA.
To avoid intra-regional clashes, each group could only have one team from each region, meaning Fnatic and MAD Lions were placed in separate groups.
Here are the Worlds 2022 Play-In Stage groups:
Group A:
- Fnatic (LEC)
- DRX (LCK)
- Detonation FocusMe (LJL)
- Evil Geniuses (LCS)
- LOUD (CBLOL)
- Chiefs Esports Club (LCO)
Group B:
- Beyond Gaming (PCS)
- Royal Never Give Up (LPL)
- Saigon Buffalo (VCS)
- MAD Lions (LEC)

Heading into the Group Stage draw, Dyrus was once again charged with kicking things off with the Pool One teams – the champions of the LEC, LCS, LCK, and LPL. Hai followed up with the second seeds from the LEC, LCK, and LPL, as well as the PCS first seed. Finally, Xmithie held the fates of the LCK and LPL third seeds, LCS second seed, and VCS first seed in his more-than-capable hands.
The three teams pulled into each of the four groups will be joined by one of the four teams which make it through Play-Ins.
