Following on from 2017’s hugely successful Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West will give players a chance to revisit Aloy’s stunning post-apocalyptic world, and the feral animal-like machines that inhabit it The game is released on Friday, but if you want to buy it ahead of the launch, we’ve gathered together everything you need to know about the game’s different pre-order bonuses.
While some players will want to get the game and dive in with no frills, others will want to go the whole shebang, grabbing the limited edition artbooks and so forth. There are five different pre-order packages to choose from (the Launch, Special, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s and Regalla Editions), and each of them includes a slightly different selection of bonuses.
Whichever Horizon Forbidden West pre-order bonuses you go for, you can be sure that you’re going to get a top quality game. So far, the Horizon Forbidden West reviews have been very positive. It seems that this is a game that’s all set to become one of the all-time greats in the PlayStation library.
Horizon Forbidden West Pre-Order Bonuses
So, because we’ve all waited long enough for this sequel, here are all the Horizon Forbidden West pre-order bonuses:
Launch Edition pre-order
Though it doesn’t come with any fancy extras, this is what you’ll want to go for if you’re just keen to step back into Aloy’s shoes as she sets off on her latest adventure. There are two separate Launch Editions, one for PlayStation 4 and one for PlayStation 5. The PS5 version will set you back just a little more than its PS4 counterpart.
Special Edition pre-order
In addition to the game, the Special Edition pre-order comes with the following extra goodies:
- Steelbook Display Case: a box for your game that’s much more attractive than the standard plastic ones, and more durable too.
- Mini art book: gathering together a collection of beautiful concept art which was created for the game.
- Digital soundtrack: enjoy the game’s fantastic soundtrack anytime, anywhere with a free digital copy.
- Nora Legacy Outfit: an in-game outfit for Aloy, which is based on the garb of mentor character Rost, who fans will know from Horizon Zero Dawn. This is exclusive to those who pre-order.
- Nora Legacy Spear: along with the Nora Legacy Outfit, you get a matching spear to use with it. This is also exclusive to the pre-order.
Like the Launch Edition, the Special Edition is available for both PS4 and PS5, so choose whichever is most appropriate for you. Supplies of this one are starting to run low, but you can still find it in some places.
Collector’s Edition pre-order
The Collector’s Edition contains both the PS4 and the PS5 version of the game, along with a plethora of other bonuses, including:
- All bonuses included in the Special Edition.
- Exclusive statues: you’ll get statues of both the game’s protagonist, Aloy, and its antagonist, Regalla, on a Tremortusk.
- Digital comic: if you love the story behind the Horizon series, you’ll get even more of it through The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel.
- Carja Behemoth Elite Outfit: an exclusive in-game outfit based on the game’s Carja tribe.
- Carja Behemoth Short Bow: a weapon to match the Carja Behemoth Elite outfit.
- Nora Thunder Elite Outfit: another exclusive in-game outfit, this one based on the matriarchal Nora tribe.
- Nora Thunder Sling: a weapon to go with the Nora Thunder Elite outfit.
Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece: for use in the game within the game, Strike. - In-Game Resources Pack: helping to ensure that you get off to a good start when you embark on Aloy’s second adventure.
- Photo Mode: immediately unlock Photo Mode (previously included in Horizon Zero Dawn), along with a special pose for Aloy and some face paint.
Unfortunately, this edition seems to be sold out in most places, but we’d still recommend checking its availability, as you never know when more might become available.
Digital Deluxe Edition pre-order
If you’re not too bothered about owning the game physically, but would still like to get your digital fingers on all the extra bonuses that some of the physical pre-orders provide, then the Digital Deluxe Edition is probably your best option. While it obviously doesn’t include the art cards, statues or any of the other physical bonuses, it does encompass all the digital bonuses (such as the digital soundtrack), along with all the bonus in-game content. See the lists above for all the digital content included in the Digital Deluxe Editions. This is available to download directly from the PlayStation Store.
Regalla Edition pre-order
This is is the most comprehensive edition of all, and it contains the PS4 and PS5 versions together, along with all of the previous bonuses, and a few extras:
- Focus replica: a replica of the small augmented reality devices that humans use in the Horizon series. It also comes with a stand for you to easily display it on.
- Exclusive art cards: two art cards are included, which could make great display items.
- Machine Strike pieces: of the iconic combat machines, Clawstrider and Sunwing – these are based on Strike, the game within a game in Horizon Forbidden West.
Just as with the Special Edition, many online retailers are already sold out of the Regalla Edition, but it’s worth checking because you never know when there might be unexpected stock boosts.
