GTA 6 now reportedly Rockstar’s focus with remakes shelved

After Rockstar announced it was working on the next GTA GTA 6 is now reportedly the studio's focus instead of remasters of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4

GTA 6 Rockstar Development: GTA 4's protagonist can be seen

Earlier this year, Rockstar announced that GTA 6 was in “active development”, but now the next major in the franchise is reportedly Rockstar’s sole focus. Remakes the developer had reportedly been working on are instead being shelved for the time being.

The report comes from Rockstar insider and reliable scooper, ‘TezFunz2‘ and was backed up by Kotaku‘s own sources. According to these reports, remasters of both GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption were in development at Rockstar. With Kotaku’s sources saying that the publisher hopes people forget about the critically panned Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, which was released in a buggy state last year.

And, by leaving these remasters on the cutting room floor (at least for now) Rockstar can focus “most of its resources and energy on its next big game, Grand Theft Auto 6”.

However, Kotaku reports that those remasters aren’t completely “out of scope” and that we could see them in the future after GTA 6 releases.

So, with multiple reports saying GTA 6 is Rockstar’s primary project right now, when could the GTA 6 release date be? Well, it is likely still a while away, even with Rockstar focused on it, but a release in late 2024 or in 2025 doesn’t seem completely out of the realm of possibility.

Although that is just speculation right now. We will likely have to wait at least another year or two until we see the game. But, looking at the full picture anyone’s guess as to what GTA 6 looks like or when it releases is as good as ours.
