Some number-crunching financial analysts have claimed that the GTA 6 release date may not come in early 2025 like many expected, and may instead launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later in the year instead.
Previous financial reports from Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two, seemed to suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be out before the end of the next financial year, which runs from April 1 of this year through until March 31 next year. With its internet-breaking reveal trailer confirming it would be out in the calendar year of 2025, many put two and two together to predict a January, February, or March 2025 GTA 6 release date.
However, that theory for the hotly-anticipated new PS5 game and new Xbox game may now be in tatters. Analysts from Wedbush Securities have looked into the numbers Take-Two gave in the earnings report it published yesterday, and spotted a big drop in projected revenue for the next financial year. Take-Two previously claimed it would make upwards of $8 billion, but this has now fallen to around $7 billion. The only thing in the company’s slate that could cause such a drop is something on the scale of GTA 6.
As was spotted by VGC, the analysts say: “We can only surmise that GTA 6 has slipped out of FY:25, in-line with our earlier expectation… The drop makes us almost certain that GTA 6 will not be releasing next FY. With that said, we have no reason to believe the game has slipped out of calendar 2025, but it is reasonable to assume that it will launch later in the year.”
So, all this now points to GTA 6 arriving at some point after April 2025. We always felt it was odd that Rockstar and Take-Two would want to launch GTA 6 so early in the calendar year. The period just before the holiday season is often a prime spot to launch a big new game (as EA and Activision demonstrate each year with EA FC and Call of Duty, respectively). Plus, GTA 5 came out in September of 2013 (yes, it’s really been that long).
If we were to hedge our bets, we’d say September sounds very likely for GTA 6 as well. But at the end of the day, we’ve waited well over a decade – we’ll take GTA 6 whenever it arrives. Could it go down as the best open-world game ever? We can’t wait to find out.
