GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are almost here and Rockstar Games are offering players the ability to transfer their progress to the latest versions of the game.
This means that your story progress within Gran Theft Auto 5 can be brought over to the latest consoles, saving you from starting the mammoth open-world game over again. But, how do you go about the process of transferring your GTA 5 story progress and can you switch between current generation consoles and last generation consoles?
Well, Rockstar has detailed everything about GTA 5’s save transfer from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S and how you can transfer your dozens of hours of progress and completion over to the “expanded and enhanced” version of the game. It isn’t yet clear if things like statistics in the game, or trophy and achievement progress will transfer over. However, we will keep this guide updated with the latest information.
GTA 5 save transfer for PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S
In order to perform a GTA 5 save transfer from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, you will need to upload your save data to the Rockstar Games Social Club. The following steps from there are as follows for a GTA 5 save transfer from PS4 to PS5 and a GTA 5 Save transfer from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S:
- Enter Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4 or Xbox One
- Go to the Game tab
- Here you will be presented with the option to upload your save file
There are some caveats to this upgrade. Once uploaded, save data will remain downloadable for only 90 days. This save transfer can also only be done with one game save per platform at a time and the save data can only be transferred once.
On top of that, you cannot transfer your save data back to PS4 or Xbox One. Once they have been moved to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, they are there until you delete it or pick up from where you left off. These save transfers are now live.
