Praise the Allfather, God of War Ragnarok is getting New Game Plus

God of War Ragnarok is getting a New Game Plus mode next year and we can't wait to play again; Santa Monica Studios is living up to its' name with this gift!

God of War Ragnarok update New Game Plus release window: Kratos and Atreus from GOW Ragnarok

If you, like us and quite a few other PlayStation players, found yourself enamoured with Santa Monica Studios’ GOTY nominated God of War Ragnarok, you’ll be pleased to know that the developer has something of an update when it comes to a New Game Plus mode for the action-adventure epic. That’s right, God of War Ragnarok is getting a New Game Plus mode in Spring 2023.

On December 22, as something of an early Christmas present to fans, Santa Monica Studios shared a GIF of Tyr with the message that they’re “happy to confirm that New Game Plus will be coming to God of War Ragnarok in Spring 2023”. You can see the social media post for yourself right here. With God of War Ragnarok having the most immersive moment in gaming history, we can’t wait to relive this epic journey.

Unfortunately, that was just about it. The studio did promise to share more details closer to the time, but there’s quite literally nothing else to talk about right now – well, almost nothing. We can certainly look at the New Game Plus mode in 2018’s God of War for some idea of what to expect when it comes to this mode.

In God of War’s New Game Plus mode, Santa Monica Studios introduced an additional difficulty level for players to tackle alongside a series of new items for players to unlock. There were improved Talismans, new armour sets, and a handful of additional shield skins.

In addition to this, some of the game’s boss fights offered up new challenges with advanced attack patterns and move sets. Players could also use late-game weapontry (with some restrictions) earlier in their New Game Plus playthroughs.

While we can’t confirm anything like this will be coming to God of War Ragnarok’s New Game Plus mode, we certainly think that these are the kinds of things we should expect to see. But, we’ll just have to wait to find out exactly what to expect; God of War Ragnarok is bigger and better than its’ predecessor, after all, so there could be some surprises.

God of War Ragnarok is one of The Loadout’s Game of the Year 2022 nominees – and you can find out why it’s so great here. If you’re just picking it up over the holiday season, you can find out more about all the God of War Ragnarok realms, the God of War Ragnarok bosses, and the God of War Ragnarok secret ending and how to get it here.
