God of War Ragnarok PS4 to PS5 upgrade: Kratos and Atreus can be seen in a boat

Are you wondering how the God of War Ragnarok PS4 to PS5 upgrade process works? Well, with Sony releasing the game on PS4 and PS5, the free upgrade process for the basic version of games stopped earlier this year with the release of Horizon Forbidden West. As such, you will have to fork up some extra money.

But, to help you out before you jump into Midgard and the other Realms in the game we will go through which editions of the game you can buy to get that sort of free upgrade. And, we will also tell you if you can get it when you buy the game at retail.

God of War Ragnarok PS4 to PS5 upgrade process explained

To get the God of War Ragnarok free PS4 to PS5 upgrade you need to buy either the cross-gen Standard Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition on the PlayStation Store. If you buy the PS4 game at retail, you will need to pay $10/£10 on the PlayStation Store to get the upgrade when you do want to make that jump to PS5, but you will need to keep your disk as well. The same is true for the digital PS4 standard edition of the game.

As you can see, it isn’t ideal to have to pay that extra money, but Sony is offering a better way to upgrade than some other publishers which require you to rebuy the game or spend significantly more than $70/£70. So, in order to get the “free” upgrade you do need to spend $70 initially. But, that does mean you won’t have to spend that money down the line if you are stuck on PS4 right now and waiting to upgrade.

With the knowledge of the God of War Ragnarok PS4 to PS5 upgrade process, you can then make your purchase and hop in and discover the new and returning characters awaiting in the game. And, if you are still on the fence, check out our God of War Ragnarok review to see what we thought about the game.
