A familiar but expanded mechanic returns within Elden Ring in the form of Stonesword Keys. Similar to the Fragrant Branch of Yore from Dark Souls II, Elden Ring’s Stonesword Keys can be used by the Tarnished to access areas, items, and even bosses behind fog walls.
If you ever come across a gargoyle-like imp statue in your journey across the Lands Between then that is the right time to make use of your newfound key item. It is a clever way for FromSoftware to hide some of the game’s best, most intriguing treasures, making you deliberate whether the sacrifice of losing a precious Stonesword Key is worth the reward that is on the other side.
Of course, there is only a finite number of Stonesword Keys in Elden Ring, so knowing where they all are so you can open as many imp statues as possible is a great way to see some of the game’s best content. So, make sure to read on to find a number of Elden RIng Stonesword Key locations from early in the game so you can begin unlocking the Imp gated areas.

In the southeast part of Agheel Lake, you can find the Dragon Burnt Ruins. Inside one of the stone buildings in the centre, there is a Stonesword Key on a dead body.
One Stonesword Key can be found on the Bridge of Sacrifices in the south of Limgrave, bordering the Weeping Peninsula. Be careful though and there’s a barrage of foes on the bridge surrounding the Stonesword Key.
After beating Patches in Murkwater Cave just east from Gatefront in central Limgrave you will be gifted Patches Bell Bearing, which you can take to the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. Once given to them you can purchase a Stoneseword Key from Patches’ Bell Bearing shop for 5000 runes.
Stormhill STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
On the approach up to Stormveil Castle, you’ll pass Stormhill Shack and a Site of Lost Grace. Just outside the Shack on a raised platform, you’ll find an item drop on a body that has a Stonesword Key.
WEEPING PENINSULA STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
The Castle Morne Rampart Site of Grace has a merchant next to it, along the main path in the Weeping Peninsula. He sells one Stonesword Key.
Another Stonesword Key can be found on a corpse at the north-most part of the hillside on the eastern edge of the Whispering Peninsula.
In Castle Morne at the very south of the Weeping Peninsula, begin at the ‘Behind the Castle’ Site of Lost Grace, which can be found by jumping over a wall onto a grassy section in southeast Castle Morne. From there, progress over the first wall by the Site, and then peer over a drop where there is a broken stone wall nearby. You will see a wooden platform to drop down onto and a Stonesword Key item pickup.
Southwest of Tombsward Cave in the western Weeping Peninsula you can find a shack housing the Isolated Merchant. He sells three Stonesword Keys at 2000 Runes each.
STORMVEIL Castle STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
Heading above the Rampart Tower Site of Lost Grace in the castle, use the sandbags to hop onto the roof edge. From there, jump over to the adjacent tower, which is half crumbled and you will be able to drop down into a room with a Stonesword Key item drop.
When progressing along the path through Stormveil, above the Grafted Scion, jump over a set of sandbags adjacent to a room with a halberd knight inside, before you head back into the interior of the castle. From there you can climb a ladder to the rooftops.
Drop down onto a wooden platform on the edge of the roof, and then you will be able to reach the mezzanine in the room above the Grafted Scion. On that platform, you will find a Stonesword Key on a dead body.
From the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace, head outside and drop down the ramparts to your right. This will take you under Stormveil Castle and amongst a bunch of items, you can find a Stonesword Key.
ROUNDTABLE HOLD STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
Four Stonesword Keys can be purchased from Finger Reader Enia after the inner part of the Roundtable Hold opens up.
LIURNIA OF THE LAKES STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
A Stonesword Key can be found against the back cliff behind the Ainsel River Well. There will be a solitary chair with an item on a corpse holding the treasured Stonesword Key.
In the far west of the Lake in Liurnia, at Academy Gate Town there will be a slightly sunken church tower in the water. On top of it is a chest containing a Stonesword Key. It is best to make use of Elden Ring’s horse Torrent to double jump up on top of these rooftops.
ACADEMY OF RAYA LUCARIA STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS
Inside the classroom, in southeast Raya Lucaria there is an altar that has a stone body lying behind it. Upon that body you will find a Stonesword key. This room can be accessed by breaking one of the illusionary wall bookcases in front of the first boss arena.
In Raya Lucaria’s main courtyard, after defeating the first boss, there is a Stonesword Key on the fountain-like structure in the centre that is hard to miss.
Caelid Stonesword Key Locations
The next Stonesword Key can be found in Sellia, the Town of Sorcery in the east of Caelid. You will need to climb the tree branch in the town, next to the large staircase at the end. Jump onto the rooftops, and to the south-western roofs, towards the swamp.
Climb up the next tree branch and kill the archer. Hop to the large tree branch leading into the swamp and continue to the tower. On the beam connecting two buildings, you can find the key.
The final Stonesword key in Caelid can be found after you exit the Siofra River from the northern elevator. After rising to the surface and activating the Deep Siofra Well Site of Grace, turn to your left to find a very tough bear. Either run past it or kill it to find a Stonesword Key on the cliff edge.
LEYNDELL STONESWORD KEY LOCATIONS

The next Stonesword Key can be found towards the exit elevator out of the river. Head across the cliffs to the cliff-face opposite the elevator. You will find a pillar with a beam connected to it, just left of the Golden Seed location. Use your horse to ride along the beam and jump up to the pillar. On the opposite side of the pillar is a Stonesword key.
