Elden Ring pulled off the crazy feat of selling 13.4 million copies during its first five weeks. That took us up to the end of March. But, Bandai Namco’s most recent financial report has revealed that between then and the end of June 2022, the publisher has now sold 16.6 million copies of the game, adding 3.2 million in the quarter.
The number which comes from the period covering April 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022 was picked up by Gamebiz and shows a pretty steep dropoff in sales for the game. However, this is completely normal for games, which usually see most of their sales in the first few weeks they are available.
And, when you take into account that more than 13 million people brought the game initially, a sizeable chunk of the market bought the game right when it launched.
However, adding another 3.2 million sales is nothing to turn your nose up at. That is still a number many publishers would die for and suggests that the game will eventually pass the lifetime sales of the Dark Souls series, especially if DLC is released. The Dark Souls series currently sits at 27 million sales.
At this milestone, it looks likely that Elden Ring will pass 20 million sales by the end of the year, possibly exceeding that magical 27 million number by the time the financial year ends on March 31, 2022.
This is a crazy possibility and shows that Elden Ring is possibly one of the biggest hits in recent years. And, we expect the game to easily make it into the top 50 best-selling games of all time.
The game is still being streamed by a ton of people on Twitch and streamers and creators continue to pull off insane runs within the game, like a one-handed playthrough from MissMikkaa, which should keep pulling in new players as they seek to dive into one of FromSoftware’s creations.
