Looking for Dying Light 2's best weapons? Here are some tips and choices you can pick when it comes to being the most prepared for combat

Dying Light 2: Stay Human‘s visceral melee weapons are back alongside a selection of ranged weapons (although the latter takes the form of bows instead of firearms). With so many options and variations of weapons it can be hard to find out what you should use.

From blunt staffs to serrated blades, melee weapons have a lot of variation in Dying Light 2 and the game’s gear levelling system means that there isn’t really a standout “best weapon”. As you get further into the game, some early-game weapons will appear at a higher level, and you will also start to see some new weapons, such as knives and large axes. There are some cool ranged options too, but if we’re being honest, melee weapons are far superior in Dying Light 2.

But which of those weapons should you be picking up both early in the game and towards the final stages of the campaign, when you are at a high level? Well, we have some suggestions for the best weapons in Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 Best Weapons

Dying Light 2’s best weapons are some of the most impactful and damaging, while not impeding your movement too much. Here are some choices:

  • Loose Screw
  • Gunhammer
  • Chopper
  • Shoelace Machete
  • Heavy Duty

Loose Screw

Loose Screw is one of the better starting weapons in Dying Light 2, thanks to its ability to cut through flesh and keep Infected stumbling about as the blade cuts through them.

While there are plenty of other options as you progress through the game, you can’t get much better than the Loose Screw, especially when it is modified with electricity.

Gunhammer

The Gunhammer is a rather unique weapon as it is a gun strapped to a pole. However, it is great against both humans and Infected as it will deliver a strong blow to the jaw, disorienting them.

Even as you make your way up to a higher Player Rank, the Gunhammer remains a strong option for your inventory.

Chopper

The Chopper serves as an extremely effective bridge between the early-game and late-game weapons. It has strong slashing capabilities making it very lethal and can be equipped with a wide variety of mods.

Pairing its strength at a Unique rarity with Inferno and Blaze mods can result in deadly attacks or a great weapon you pull out to set entire groups of Infected on fire.

Shoelace Machete

The Shoelace Machete is one of the best weapons in Dying Light 2. As a machete it is great at cutting through enemies while also remaining durable and powerful.

On top of that, the wide variety of mods you can equip makes it even stronger. You will have to wait until the closing hours of the game to start seeing it pop up as a reward, but if you get one you should be saving it for the toughest fights.

Heavy Duty

Although not our favourite weapon, it is impossible to deny the power of the Heavy Duty axe. It packs a massive wallop and when paired with a heavy attack it can decimate an entire pack of enemies.

It can also be enhanced greatly with mods but it is strong without them and you are better off putting your resources towards other weapons.

That covers our selections for some of the best weapons in Dying Light 2. For more tips on some of the best items and strongest skills in the game, check out our Dying Light 2 walkthrough and our picks for the best skills in Dying Light 2‘s two trees.
