When is the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date? After a long, long wait, fans of the cult RPG are getting their sequel and Capcom has begun to lift the lid on what the team has been working on when it comes to the ambitious RPG. So if you’re just as excited as us, here’s when the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date is.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 was announced back in 2022 after the first game celebrated its tenth anniversary. And, the first is widely considered to be one of the best RPG games of all time by the few people who played it. Unfortunately, the game didn’t sell super well initially but built up a loyal fanbase over time and after Devil May Cry 5, Capcom let the creator Hideaki Itsuno work on a sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date estimate
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is reportedly going to be released on Friday, March 22, 2024, according to a recent PEGI rating of the game, spotted by VGC. The rating has now been taken down, but this is likely due to the fact the release date is likely to be announced in a Dragon’s Dogma 2 showcase on November 28, 2023.
While Capcom didn’t confirm the game in question, it did announce in a report that it would release an “unannounced major title” before the end of this financial year. This could possibly be Dragon’s Dogma 2, and with the release date leak, that possibility seems even more likely. The game is set to arrive on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, skipping last-generation consoles.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 story
Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in an underground gaol, according to Capcom on the PlayStation Blog. This is where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories and a hero must fulfill their forgotten destiny.
The dragon is the symbol of the world’s destruction and it soars with the skies with “its massive wings and breathes flames that scorch everything in its path.” Some are terrified by its presence and others worship it.
Ulrika is a pivotal character in the game. She is a bow-wielder with a deep connection to the Arisen. Nadinia is a high priestess of a new species appearing in the game for the first time.
Hopefully, Capcom will reveal more later this year before the game’s launch.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay
Among the lore and beautiful shots of the world in the Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay preview at TGS 2023, we got to see a variety of gameplay mechanics, including some of the classes like the Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer.

We also got to go hands-on with the RPG in West London and discovered even more gameplay details. This includes the fact that the game is drawing from survival games to develop mechanics and add new ideas to its traditional RPG formula. For example, you will need to often venture out alone at night and there is a deep sense of dread that comes from that.
Also, mechanics like crafting, player choice and customization, and a huge amount of content for you to complete help highlight that player choice that is so integral to RPGs. You can find our full Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay preview here.
The Capcom Showcase 2023 detailed two core mechanics in the game. Firstly Pawns are back and Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a fully single-player experience. But, playing with your Pawn, which is an AI-controlled teammate will make it feel like a co-op game. You can also bring up to two additional Pawns with you, which you borrow from other players.
Secondly, the game’s world is about four times bigger than the first game, according to Hidetaka Itsuno, the game’s director. The game is built to let you play the way you like, determining your own strategies.

So there you have it! A rundown of everything we know about the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date, lore and story, and of course, the gameplay. It has a good shot of becoming one of the best PS5 RPG games and best Xbox RPG games, so be sure to keep an eye on it.
