28/02/2023 Bungie has shared an additional step to help Xbox players login to Destiny 2 for Lightfall. The text of this article has been updated to reflect that.
Guardians all around the globe have been waiting quite a while for the Destiny 2 Lightfall expansion to arrive, and it’s quite exciting now it’s finally almost upon us. However, if you’re planning to play on an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you might find yourself facing some trouble. Bungie has confirmed that some players will be met with login issues for Destiny 2 Lightfall on Xbox consoles; thankfully, though, it has already worked out how this somewhat inevitable issue can be fixed.
Ahead of the fast-approaching Destiny 2 Lightfall release time and the end of the server downtime, Bungie Help has detailed a step-by-step list of actions Xbox players need to take if they want to circumvent an “issue blocking sign-in” it has been investigating. The first step, as simple as it sounds, is to close and quit Destiny 2 – it needs to stop running before you can continue.
From here, you need to navigate to the Destiny 2 tile on your dashboard and use the Menu button to bring up a series of options. From this list, you want to choose “Manage game and add-ons” – which should then boot up another menu screen away from your Xbox console’s dashboard.
Once you’re here, you need to find and select Destiny 2 – again – and proceed to unselect the following add-ons:
- Destiny 2: Forsaken – Black Armory
- Destiny 2: Forsaken – Joker’s Wild
- Destiny 2: Forsaken – Penumbra
- Destiny 2: Forsaken Annual Pass
- Expansion I: Curse of Osiris
- Expansion II: Warmind
When you have de-selected all of these, hit “Save Changes”. Then, you should see these add-ons start to uninstall from your Destiny 2 application in the Manage Queue screen – which is where you go to check your downloads and updates.
From here, there’s one more bit of housekeeping that needs doing. You need to go back into the “My Games & Apps” section of your dashboard, select “Manage”, then “Updates”, and double-check that every Destiny 2 ’tile’ that appears has been updated. You might find yourself looking at more than one, and that’s fine – just make sure they’re all updated.
When this is done, and it shouldn’t take too long, you should be able to boot up Destiny 2 again and jump in. Of course, it’s worth noting that the servers could face issues and players might be met with quite a lot of trouble logging into the game. However, if you are having an issue on an Xbox Series X|S, this could be the reason why – so, it’s worth checking.
So, now that we know when the Destiny 2 servers will come back online for Lightfall and what we need to do if we’re facing login issues on Xbox Series X|S, all there is to do now is wait.
While you’re doing that, it’s worth reading up on the new Lightfall element in our Destiny 2 Strand guide here and on each Destiny 2 Strand subclass in detail right here. We know a lot of players have multiple characters and you might find you want to jump into Lightfall with one class more than the other – depending on what the relevant subclass offers.
