CS:GO jump throw bind: how to set one up

With a CS:GO jump throw bind, your road to Global Elite will be made ten times easier - here's how to set one up so you can chuck your grenades with ease

CS:GO jump throw bind: A CS:GO character wearing a green FBI jacket fires a small submachine gun

While winning games in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive mainly comes down to clicking heads and planting bombs, learning to effectively use utility can really be the difference maker that propels you up the CS:GO ranks. However, simply lobbing utility around is one thing, but learning how to use a CS:GO jump bind to win you a round is another.

Knowing all the best grenade line-ups can be the thing that separates a successful bombsite execution from a CT-side spray down, and many of those set-plays utilise what is known as the jump throw. Jump throws give extra power and height to your standard line-up throw, meaning that you can reach further distances and perform your throws from safer, more reliable angles.

Employing the jump throw can mean that you block off entry to a site before the T-side can get there, or deny a critical sightline for the CT-side AWP all from the safety of T-spawn. Furthermore, the CS:GO jump throw bind specifically gives reliability and consistency to your throws, meaning that the jump and the throw actions are perfectly synchronized every time – you’ll never disappoint your teammates with an out-of-bounds smoke again.

But how exactly do you set up a CS:GO jump throw bind so that you can nail those smokes every single time? Read on to find out.

CS:GO jump throw bind setup

The best way to go about setting up your own CS:GO jump throw bind is by creating a config file in your CS:GO directory. It is a simple process that means that the executable action is loaded within the game every time you launch. Without this you would have to input the console command every time you played a match – and that’s just not convenient, is it?

What you need to do is open up the Notepad application on your PC and save a file named ‘autoexec.cfg’ in your CS:GO Steam directory. This is usually located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\cfg.

Then, once you have done that, open the file up again and input the following text: alias “+jumpthrow” “+jump;-attack”; alias “-jumpthrow” “-jump”; bind alt “+jumpthrow”

The ‘ALT’ in the last section is the selected key you want to use to perform the jump throw action and this can be changed to whatever key works best for you. The ALT key is a good option as it is directly next to the spacebar which most players rest their thumb on so has easy access, but any of the supplementary mouse buttons or something you can reach easily without too much movement would work well also. All you need to do is just replace the bit in bold with whatever key you end up choosing.

After you have chosen your specific key, make sure to save the file and check that it is in the right location. Then what you want to do is head over to your Steam library. Next, you need to right click on CS:GO, then navigate to the properties window. From there, make sure you’re on the ‘General’ tab. Now you need to enter this text in the ‘Launch Options’ section: +exec autoexec.cfg

This makes sure that CS:GO runs the command in your autoexec config file every time the game is launched, leaving you free to jump throw to your heart’s content.

The jump throw bind can really open up your utility opportunities and can inadvertently win you more games than you think. Ever struggled to deal with an opposition AWPer at mid window on Mirage? Now you can completely smoke them off only seconds after you spawn. Want to smoke Xbox on the new Dust2? Now you can with ease thanks to the jump throw bind.

You can also make use of the autoexec config file for any other console commands you want to insert into your CS:GO experience. It can be handy for creating buy commands – where you map actions like buying an AK-47 or a defuse kit to specific keys to save you time – or even things like quickly changing your crosshair or switching your viewmodel from right hand to left hand. The jump throw bind is easily the most popular however, and one you will find invaluable in game.

That’s how you set up your own CS:GO jump throw bind – now you’re ready to hit the server again and impress all your friends with some clever new grenade line-ups that will take you on the next step in your path to Global Elite.
