For hardcore fans of Call of Duty’s battle royale offerings, a dedicated ranked mode is something that they’ve long-requested. Well, the wait is going to soon be over, as Warzone 2 Ranked Play is arriving later this year.
Despite Season 2 of Warzone 2 and MW2 just kicking off, it seems Activision wants to ease some concerns around future content as it has laid out its plans for both Season 2 Reloaded and later on in the year. The “Season 3 and beyond” content, the fan-favourite Gunfight mode will return to Modern Warfare 2, while Warzone 2 will get Plunder and, finally, a dedicated ranked mode. This was revealed in a deleted then re-posted tweet by the official Call of Duty account but also confirmed in coverage by Charlie Intel.
Warzone 2 Ranked Play will probably follow a similar system to MW2 Ranked Play, which just went live with the start of Season 2, with Charlie Intel reporting that the same team of Treyarch developers that worked on MW2’s ranked mode will be working on this one. However, it’ll likely be tweaked to better suit the gameplay of a battle royale and end up being a mixture of what we see in Apex Legends ranked and MW2.
The wait for a proper competitive ranked mode in both the original Warzone and Warzone 2 has been a lengthy one. Warzone tried to keep high-skill and hardcore players happy with competitive modes like Iron Trials, but an actual ranking system was never implemented.
It’s unclear exactly when Warzone 2 Ranked Play will arrive – all we know is it is at least a couple of months away, with the start of Warzone 2 Season 3 being the earliest possible time it could drop, judging by Call of Duty’s tweet.
With ranked finally coming to Warzone, make sure that you’re up to speed with the Warzone 2 meta before next season, and start getting some reps in early while using some of the best Warzone 2 guns.
