If you feel like you’ve been stuck in a rut grinding Shipment 24/7 endlessly, then the Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 release date might be your saving grace. Alongside the arrival of new maps like COD4’s Strike, Call of Duty fans can also look forward to the drop of Modern Warfare 2 Havoc mode, following new leaks that showcase the absolutely wild game mode.
The best Modern Warfare 2 loadouts might not be enough to get you through Havoc mode, an energetic playlist that channels underrated COD modes like Infected. According to the latest Modern Warfare 2 update blog post “Havoc is a brand-new core multiplayer mode inspired by classic arena-shooter gameplay, then further enhanced with the injection of a random selection of frenzy-inducing modifiers.”
We never thought we’d hear this phrase associated with Call of Duty, but Havoc arrives of the back of “Infinity Ward specifically designing this as a rogue-like mode, where each time a game is played, you receive enhancement modifiers that changes gameplay in new and interesting (and not to mention, chaotic) ways.”
It likely isn’t going to replicate the thrills of rogue-like games like Hades, Enter The Gungeon, or Returnal, but it already sounds like a blast.

Matches start off as Team Deathmatch battles, but will quickly evolve into more frantic situations: “You should forget about Perk Packages, killstreaks, or field upgrades. They don’t exist in Havoc. Instead, prepare to embrace the match-changing modifiers.” Every 12 kills Havoc mode will introduce new tweaks, from a pool of 14 total modifiers.
A leaked snippet of gameplay is making the rounds now on social media, and you can check it out for yourself via ‘BobNetworkUK’. Each modifier will stack as the match progresses, with scenarios like “a third-person, moon gravity, hero-landing-enabled, auto-reloading flame-tipped crossbow and molotovs-only deathmatch” all made possible by the new playlist. You can expect these modifiers in Havoc mode:
- Ammo Feeder: Auto reloads a weapon (from stock ammo) upon elimination
- Boots Off the Ground: Moon gravity. Affects only player jump heights, not thrown equipment or ballistics
- Flameshot: Flame-tipped Crossbows and Molotovs only. All Loadouts change immediately to this upon modifier activation
- Hero Landing: Landing from a big drop causes a frag-grenade-like explosion around you
- Perspective Shift: Everyone swaps to a third-person camera view
Havoc mode has the potential to fit in well alongside modes like Prop Hunt, and as we pass the time until the Modern Warfare 3 reveal, we look forward to indulging in the chaos.
