When is the Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 release date? After years of waiting and almost two decades on from the first game, Bloodlines 2 news is finally arriving from publisher Paradox Interactive.

After a torturous development, that included multiple delays and the game moving developers from Hardsuit Labs, you can rest easy knowing what could become one of the best Xbox RPG games and best PS5 RPG games is finally arriving soon. Well, it’ll be one of the best if it can live up to the original, anyway. Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has been a long time coming but here’s what we know about the current state of the game after some original build screenshots were shared online in mid-2022.

Bloodlines 2 release date window

The Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 release date window is set for Fall 2024 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. This window was confirmed at PAX West 2023 where the game was re-revealed with a brand-new trailer. This also means it will now not be released on PS4 or Xbox One.

Paradox Interactive hasn’t announced an official firm date yet, however. What it has announced, however is that UK-based studio The Chinese Room, the team behind the likes of Dear Esther, Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, and Still Wakes the Deep, would be taking over development duty from Hardsuit Labs.

The previous studio was shifted off of the project after Paradox realized it needed more time in the oven. Considering the game had already been delayed before, it appears that drastic measures were required to prevent any further setbacks.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 story

Bloodlines 2 takes players to the dark underbelly of Seattle, where vampires struggle for survival and supremacy. As an Elder vampire, you will meet compelling characters, maneuver complex political relationships, stalk the city streets for prey, and engage in intense combat while balancing the need for blood.

Throughout the game, players must always be mindful of their surroundings or risk breaking the Masquerade – the absolute law of secrecy that keeps vampire society hidden from humanity.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 gameplay

At the end of January Paradox shared post-Alpha footage of the game. The first-person RPG has plenty of swooshy combat going for it, with some time-dilation elements thrown in for good measure. We can also see dialogue trees at play here, though it’s currently unclear just how much they impact scenario outcomes.

The September 2023 PAX announcement trailer, meanwhile, gave us a brief look at gameplay which has been rebuilt with new RPG systems and mechanics according to an interview with PCGamer.

In June 2023, Paradox offered refunds to those who have pre-ordered the game, as its editions and bonus content are being updated and altered. So, if you have pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition or the digital versions of the First Blood Edition you will receive a refund and can find out what to do here on an FAQ.

The Unsanctioned Edition and Blood Moon Edition remain and aren’t being changed, but you can still request a refund if you want to.

The Chinese Room has a long history working on horror games from “walking simulators” like Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, to the recently-released Still Wakes The Deep, which is a horror game set on an oil rig.

While this is by far the most ambitious title to date for the studio, it definitely seems to be aware of the expectations placed on it after fans have waited more than two decades for the sequel.
