What are the best boxing games on PS5? The sport of boxing has seen a resurgence in recent years, and with that comes a hunger for videogames that put you in the ring or let you step into the shoes of your favorite fighter. Unfortunately, the lineup of PS5 boxing games isn’t as extensive as you’d hope right now.
But don’t worry – there are still a handful of great options for those of you looking to make your name in the blue or red corner. While quite a few PS5 boxing games are still in development, there are still a number of boxing games worth checking out on your current-gen console, courtesy of backwards compatibility. So, don’t expect heaps of shiny new PS5 games and new PS4 games all about boxing, as the genre is certainly niche.
These are the best PS5 boxing games:
1. BoxVR
One of two VR games on this list, BoxVR targets the fitness audience and is playable on PS5 with the PlayStation VR headset.
The game will have you boxing along to more than 20 hours of workouts choreographed by fitness instructors, encouraging you to break records and burn calories.
The game has proved to be a huge hit online, so if you’re looking for a way to get fit and you have a PSVR, this is a must-buy.
2. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
OK, this one is cheating a little bit but SEGA’s Tokyo Olympics videogame is a surprisingly solid collection of mini-games. One of the highlights of the package is boxing, which is snappy, quick, and offers simple controls that anyone can pick up.
Boxing mini-games are hard to come by these days but the one in the Tokyo Olympics videogame is a great way to have some fun with the sport. Plus, it comes with the added benefit of being packaged alongside a number of other mini-games, such as climbing, swimming, and athletics.
3. Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions
This boxing game has more of an arcade feel to it than some of the others on this list, but if you’re a fan of the Rocky films, that’s all you need in your life.
With 20 iconic characters from the films, like Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago, and more, Big Rumble Boxing offers a true pound-for-pound boxing experience that feels rewarding and fun.
This is a PS4 game by design, but it looks and feels good on PS5.
4. Creed: Rise to Glory
This is another Rocky-inspired boxing game, except this one follows the journey of Adonis Creed in VR. Here you’ll get the chance to go toe-to-toe with menacing opponents both in a story-based career mode and online.
The training modes are great and really let you improve your overall fighting abilities, all while Rocky Balboa oversees your sessions. And in VR, this is a true workout.
Fortunately, it’s one of the best PSVR 2 games too, as it is now available on the new generation of PlayStation’s virtual reality headset.
5. EA Sports UFC 5
We’re bending the rules slightly here as this is of course an MMA game, so it offers much more than just boxing, but if you’re looking for an authentic fighting game that blends different martial arts with a true blow-for-blow experience, you can’t do much better than EA Sports UFC 5.
UFC 5 boasts an enormous lineup of current fighters and past legends, including Jon Jones, Paddy Pimblett, Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey, and Daniel Cormier. But boxing fans are catered for too, as on the legend roster you’ll find Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.
Alongside impressive visuals, loads of content, and a wide array of attacking and defensive moves, our favorite thing about UFC 5 is its Real Impact System. Cuts, bruises, and swelling is not only realistic in terms of where and how you strike opponents, but these injuries can impact gameplay too. A cut to the left eye may impair vision and may make it harder to block attacks on that side, or swelling on a leg could affect your movement.
6. Undisputed
It’s been a while since we’ve had a true, dedicated boxing sim, but Undisputed, previously known as Esports Boxing Club, is about to change all that for PlayStation players. With dozens of traits, various stances and footwork styles, and a plethora of attacking and defensive moves, this is truly a boxing game fit for the current generation of consoles.
It has a roster of over 70 fighters from the past and the present. Today’s greats like Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez are joined by the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Ricky Hatton. As well as brutal multiplayer bouts, there is a single-player career mode too that lets you create your own fighter.
It has impressed during its period of Steam early access and is set to launch on PS5 on October 11.
There you have it, the best PS5 boxing games. Hopefully, some of these will tickle your fancy, but if you’re looking for more variety, check out our lists of the best games of all genres or the best PS5 games specifically for Sony’s console.
