Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox disc-gate has finally reached its epic conclusion, and the upcoming BG3 Deluxe Edition will ship with four discs after all. It transpires that Larian’s expansive RPG just about tipped over the capacity requirements for a triple-disc release by a mere 500mb.
Clear hyperbole from this writer aside, the ‘will it, won’t it?’ of Baldur’s Gate 3’s physical release on Xbox has made for humorous reading in the days since Larian director of publishing Michael Douse highlighted the conundrum. Now, Douse says that the four-disc version of one of 2023’s best games has been locked in.
“The Xbox retail version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will indeed have four discs, since we’re 500mb over the limit for three,” Douse writes on Twitter. “[The] only option would have been to cut some content out but that didn’t make sense, so confirming four.” Props to Larian for not cutting anything from the hit RPG game.
According to Douse, the hold up over BG3’s discs will probably cause the original March 25 shipping date for its first wave to be pushed back to the first week of April. Additionally, platform editions will be shipped “in order of readiness” – PC, PS5, and finally Xbox. “No discs make life easy. Four discs, hard!” he exclaims. As such, be prepared to wait a little longer for your shiny new Deluxe Edition to come through in the mail.
The triple-disc Xbox release for Baldur’s Gate 3 was originally promised as part of the marketing material for the Deluxe Edition. Unfortunately, you will now have a slightly chunkier selection of discs to add to your collection of best Xbox games. However, at least your experience with Larian’s magnum opus won’t be compromised by cut content.
