Baldur’s Gate 3 endings branded “shallow and cringe” by RPG players

The possibilities are seemingly endless when it comes Baldur's Gate 3 endings, but RPG players believe the game's conclusions aren't worth the grind.

It’ll take hours of exploring, fighting, and forging relationships to see a resolution, but there are different Baldur’s Gate 3 endings to experience. Despite a multitude of options in the Larian Studios RPG, members of the game’s community aren’t completely enamored with the game’s conclusions.

Despite asserting itself as one of the best RPG games in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 players on the game’s subreddit highlight issues with the game’s endings. Instigating the discussion, Redditor ‘AmeleFrodo’ believes “that all [the] endings are terrible […] in the ending cinematics, companion reactions and dialogues are so shallow and cringe.” Furthermore, they add that “the endings make me unsatisfied.”

Regarding the Baldur’s Gate 3 length, which can take between 75–100 hours to finish, players like ‘Holek_SE’ suggest this frustration could a Baldur’s Gate 3 companions specific problem: “The main issue is that not all companions had their endings shown.” Due to the massive amount of story threads to follow, the story can evolve within an instant, and players might not necessarily unlock the narrative they’re looking for.

On that notion, ‘HighTopsFunkoPops’ comments that “I have no idea what became of Shadowheart or Halsin. Shadowheart was one of my closest companions in my first run, and not getting an ending to her story felt wrong.” Conversely, ‘stillnotking’ adds to this, saying that “I get that it’s hard to take all possible player choices into account […]  but I would have much preferred an epilogue for the characters, some of whom get absolutely no mention whatsoever if they weren’t in your active party for the final fight.”

There is an astounding amount of endings to consider, though. In fact, according to developer Larian Studios, there are over 17,000 different Baldur’s Gate 3 ending, confirming it FextraLife before the game’s release. It has to be some kind of record, considering other games like Second Ocean Second Evolution only have a meager 100 endings in comparison.
