Everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Infinity and latest news

Here's the latest on Assassin's Creed Infinity, the upcoming hub-like project that will link Ubisoft's iconic stealth series going forward.

Assassin's Creed Infinity release date: Naoe and Yasuke

When is the latest Assassin’s Creed Infinity news? Assassin’s Creed is undoubtedly Ubisoft’s biggest franchise currently. It has been at the forefront of many shifts in the company over the years – the latest example of that is the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This platform is set to be the future of the series. But, what do we know about this chimaeral AC experience?

Well, Infinity is set to be co-developed by two of Ubisoft’s biggest studios and it will serve as the base of the future of the series behind some of the best games out there. As such, after only being announced in 2021, development is still in its early days and details are light on Assassin’s Creed Infinity. But, leaks and reports have revealed a fair amount about the ambitious project.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity explained

Part game, part hub, part launcher, Assassin’s Creed Infinity can’t be neatly placed into a particular category. The best way to think about it is as a gamified in-universe hub experience – your own personal Animus – from which you can access AC games and other media like the lore encyclopedia.

Infinity is effectively a cross-studio collaborative effort, led by the Quebec and Montreal teams, to streamline the production of future Assassin’s Creed games. Historically, the lead development baton has been passed between studios. For example, Montreal took point on Origins (2017), then Quebec headed up Odyssey (2018) before Montreal returned to the fore with Valhalla (2020). With Infinity, both studios are essentially working on the same experience.

While project lead Marc-Alexis Côté previously explained that Infinity would start life as more of a launcher for upcoming AC games, this won’t be its final form.

“It’s something that will evolve through time as our experiences grow and we can connect them more together,” Côté told IGN back in 2022. “So I think it opens up a world of possibilities as to what we can do that go far beyond being just a launcher for our different games.”

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is an extremely ambitious project for Ubisoft and only entered the early stages of production in July 2021.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity games

Assassin’s Creed Infinity will consist of two games that have currently been announced: Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Assassin’s Creed codename Hexe. These will be the initial launch titles.

The Ubisoft Quebec-led Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take you to Feudal Japan – a setting and period fans have wanted to see for a while. Shadows’ development is being overseen by creative director Jonathan Dumont, whose work you’ll be familiar with if you’ve played AC Odyssey and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed Hexe, meanwhile, is set during the 16th Century European Witch Trials. Hexe’s creative direction comes under the jurisdiction of Clint Hocking – Splinter Cell fans should know exactly who that is considering his work on the seminal Chaos Theory.
